RE:First Pike ever, and on a fly rod too!!
Oh no! Fish-N-Fool is giving out all my secrets ;) So, who wants to go take the Zero2Hero Muskie fly fishing class with me in Wisconsin? I've been giddy ever since I watched the DVD: http://www.muskycountryoutfitters.com/Zero-to-Hero-Course-Description.aspx But I gotta get back up to the PO'R and pr...

RE:Pend Oreille River Gill netting and article from the Newport Miner please read
They use this method for spearing back in the Midwest I can't think of a single lake in Minnesota (the state I'm most familiar with) that allows spearing for pike that also has a fishable population of trophy fish. Unfortunately the big ones are the easiest ones to see, and hit. Spearing is conside...

POR open seat 4/15&16?
I'll be staying in Kettle Falls while my girlfriend is taking a horsehair bridle-making class and will need something to do during those two days, 4/15-16, Friday and Saturday. I'd love to try for some pike, either with conventional gear or flies (I have plenty of both, for two even). That's only my...

RE:Pend Oreille River Gill netting and article from the Newport Miner please read
Like others, I will try to establish my pike bona fides first. The most fun I've ever had fishing is Pike on the fly. I've not yet fished POR for pike yet but I've been dreaming of it for three years. I spend a month every year fishing in Minnesota and Canada and most of the fish I catch are pike (I...

RE:Pend Oreille River update
Is there a list of public/pay boat launches in the Pikey stretch of that river anywhere? Or can someone list some launches? I've never been there and want to give it a shot this year and don't have a clue where to go. My mother lives in Springdale and I'm trying to leverage that somehow.

Hmm.. Is having access to them at every lake a good thing or a bad thing? Seems they wouldnt be as coveted as they are here. I guess it makes it easier when you want to target them. Less driving distance between the different lakes and such. Totally different fisheries for sure I imagine. I travel ...

Really? Grew up in Wisconsin. Just have to be familiar with the lakes, as anywhere. Most of my Canadian fishing was more of a worry, since I couldn't spend enough time to really know the waters..... I had an understanding of all of them, but always found new and exciting places.... I am sure LOTW i...

... all 110 Muskie lakes in Minnesota have to offer.... Ok, now thats just not fair. #-o Well, I could have said "the thousand-plus Muskie lakes in Wisconsin" :jocolor: But after a week near Hayward a few years ago, the lakes there freak me out. Too small, too shallow, too many lower-unit killers. ...

Go to Morson or Nestor Falls, Ontario on Lake of the Woods. I'll even meet you there. I'm not kidding. Having fished all over Minnesota, Wisconsin, Western Washington, Illinois and Ontario for Muskies, I'll take Lake of the Woods. It's not even close. Second choice, Leech Lake, Minnesota (August or ...

I'm thinking something like PowerPro Spectra, Sufix Performance Braid, Cortland Master Braid for braided. Maybe fluorocarbon of high quality mono. I'm now using Stealth Fluorocarbon leaders, much better than steel. Rather than online reviews I'd like to know what the fisherman in the field are usin...

8'6" Lamiglas H Too heavy for anything but trolling and huge lures. I mean stuff you really shouldn't be throwing around here. I'll expand on that below. I only use it for trolling now. I may throw pounders or Double-10s with it later this season, if I go back to Minnesota in the fall. I doubt I'll...

T-dot If you are looking at the St. Croix I would suggest taking a peek at http://www.proedgefishing.com/. This guy makes a top notch rod!!! Lots of 50's have been landed with them. I like a longer rod (76" to 8'6") unless I am working jerkbaits. Have fun. T I tried to get a rod from him last year....

RE:Local Fish Makes Good
I'll agree with Don, I have caught some pretty small muskies and they had fins like that. These were silver lake fish. I do believe that I have seen much the same from a few out at Newman. I think it must be a hatchery deal because they seem be found like that in all the lakes. Then what the heck a...

RE:Local Fish Makes Good
It's very common for Merwin fish to have split fins like this one. My guess is it happens in the hatchery. We catch a few with deformed upper lips, too, which Steve Jackson says is caused by the fingerlings bumping into the concrete walls of the hatchery tanks. Probably because the majority of the ...

RE:Follows----> Strikes
So on silver yesterday, still getting lots of follows. We actually had one follow my boat for about 10 minutes! So what are everybodies favorite throwback lures to get that fish that follows and then turns to head back to cover? In the midwest, most people use plastics such as Lindy's Tiger Tubes, ...
