Re: step up from Okuma SST
I don't use baitcasters myself but I can tell you that typically a higher quality baitcaster reel is gonna cost you more than a quality spinning reel. If you want something pretty sensitive but not higher priced look into some of the casting G.Loomis EX6 rods.

Re: Rod/Reel for Salmon Fishing on WA Rivers
Like most people said, the Okuma SST is a great rod. I'd go with a light action rod so you can feel more,so the 8-17lb SST might be a little bulky. As for reels my favorite hands down is the Pflueger President, the size 35 being the best in my opinion. They're about 50-60$ and are one of the best re...

Re: Im cursed with Springer fishing....
It depends what kind of control you want over these fish. I broke one off on 15lb maxima because they tend to take roe deep and it doesn't take much raking across the teeth. That said, I have landed a 40 lb chinook in heavy water on 12 lb maxima leader. The key is side pressure - hold your rod down...

Re: Im cursed with Springer fishing....
I'm glad I took some advice, went up to the river late yesterday and finally, finally landed a nice native king before the sun set, finding out that my lami isn't up to par with that fishery either, lost a really nice fish just shy of 20lbs at the shore... I was talking to a guy down there plunking...

Re: Im cursed with Springer fishing....
Brads are terrible quality hooks. Simple as that. Springers aren't easy to land to begin with, but with brads they're gonna be worse, especially with Corky and Yarn. Even if the fish do bite Corky and Yarn, it's not gonna be as hard of a take as bait and they're not gonna be hooked as deep. Like oth...

Re: Braid question
I suppose it's opinion but I'd say Eagle Claw anything isn't worth the money. No sensitivity. But opinions are opinions. But I'd compare Eagle Claw to Shakespeare rods. About the rating for Braid. I don't think you'll find a lot of reels that show ratings for heavier braid unless they're large reels...

Re: Braid question
Well, online atleast it only states the general amount. (Which implies mono) except for a few says how much braid they can hold. I am looking at reels prices around 100$ or less tho, that may be why as well. But ok thanks for the info ! I'm considering Penn, Cabelas (the one I'm thinking is a cabel...

Re: Fishing near Port Ludlow
like David said, a little further but Leland is a great bet for fishing if you're interested in lakes around. It's pretty dead for trout right now unless you have a boat or Cutthroat are biting. Not many Rainbows left around the shoreline but it has the best shore access out of the lakes mentioned.

Re: Steelhead
Cowlitz would be your main option that way. Most of the rivers open for Summer runs right now are a bit of a drive for anyone near the general area of Seattle and all. It's been a very slow year it seems for most rivers that are open for them in Washington as well. So I'm not sure I would expect muc...

Re: Steelhead
From what I know there's no summer run on the Skook, not sure if it's even open during the summer? I don't think they have a summer run on the Toutle anymore either? As for the Cowlitz, I don't fish it but it gets plenty of summers.

Re: Tribes release new news on COHO...
I wrote a comment suggestion a State wide moratorium on ALL coho fishing this year. To include Tribal, commercial and sport fishermen. Just wondering, IF the tribes would propose a complete closure on all coho fishing, to include all tribal netting, would you guys support such a proposal? I would s...

Re: Bad news comes early--- coho declines again
That's pretty disappointing news [sad] I don't really fish Puget Sound rivers but the runs on the rivers I do fish will also likely be poor again this year. This last coho year was one of the worst I've ever seen, I still did okay but for the amount of time and effort I put in, it was very poor. Was...

Re: Steelhead Pics & Reports 2015/2016
It's sorta a joke, the "Notellum" river. In all seriousness, most people aren't gonna give out their river, or any secret spots, especially with the limited amounts of rivers that we can even fish for steelhead in Washington anymore. Less and less fish = more and more crowds. If you want info just d...

Re: Steelhead Pics & Reports 2015/2016
Personally I think the fish were larger earlier in the season. I didn't catch any all that big this year but I saw some nice fish and my buddies got into some well over 10lbs before the middle of December. Seems like the fish have been bigger this whole season though. Saw very few of the typical Coo...

Re: Steelhead Pics & Reports 2015/2016
Got this one today..Not the prettiest fish, realllly dark, but the meat isn't bad on it and it hasn't spawned yet so I wouldn't call bonking it a mistake. Still darkest steelhead I've ever caught.
