Re: Camping/Trout Fishing Lake for Family
If you wanted to go a little more out of your way, Cascade lake on orcas island up in the San Juan would be great as well. I just moved here and posted a report this evening (hopefully it will be up soon). It's absolutely gorgeous and you would be staying at Moran state park. Keep in mind it's elect...

Re: Nooksack Salmon runs
Well salmon would probably be the most popular. It's a little late for that down in ferndale. Once we start getting consistent rain the river turns to mud for quite awhile. Other than salmon you could try for trout, but I've never personally had good success for them. I do know the upper reaches of ...

Re: Nooksack Salmon runs
With the skagit opening up it gives us another option somewhat close to us up here. I'm sure it will be suuuuuper busy this weekend though so maybe hangin around here will be less crowded....so tempting though

Re: Nooksack Salmon runs
well it opens in two days I believe! The weather looks like it will be in our favor at least sunday maybe. South fork probably needs a really good shot of rain.

Re: Nooksack Salmon runs
However mine is more amber to brown in color like the second red pack shown here, and thick as bees wax. Unfortunately most of the store bought pre cured eggs just aren't as good as fresh roe. That being said I guess any roe is better than no roe. I have also frozen mine in glass jars. If you have ...

Re: Nooksack Salmon runs
My choice would be float fishing. Depending on the water (depth and speed), choose an appropriate sized float and enough weight to make the float stand upright and so there is about an inch sticking up out of the water. That way the added weight of your roe won't sink the float completely. Use abou...

Re: Nooksack Salmon runs
I'm stuck to either the lynden or ferndale area for the entire week due to my work schedule. On the weekends i try and make atleast one trip further upriver for a change of pace. I think I asked this earlier, but what website so you look at for the netting schedules? I'm sure I could Google it, but ...

Re: Nooksack Salmon runs
Well....didn't get a thing, but whats new there this year so far. Tried at Harksell and Flynn bar. Harksell was dead...didn't really even see anything roll. Flynn bar was a bit better just because I saw a few fish here and there. Mostly was just using vibrax and twitching jigs. Out of any of the pro...

Re: Nooksack Salmon runs
my go to egg cure is pro cure anything. Specifically their liquid cures. If you aren't good a curing eggs for whatever reason with the powders use the liquid cure. I have the pink one and the dark red or red hot...can't remember the exact names. Its insanely easy and only takes about half a day tota...

Re: Nooksack Salmon runs
If you ever go fishing on the Alsea river, (its a black water river) be sure to stop in at Taylor's Landing. That's where my grandpa landed that 56 lb fish. http://taylorslandingrvparkmarina.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The only thing I haven't tried on the Nooksack is bobber...

Re: Nooksack Salmon runs
Wow those are big fish! Nothing like that in the nooksack really. My best silver out of the last couple of years was around 10 lbs. That would be a nice fish for this system in my experience. They are in there, but with the last bit of rain we got the river is really really muddy/silty. I haven't fi...

Re: Samish 2016
2 oz?? geez....definitely not twitching jigs. I have not personally fished the samish, but it sounds like somewhere I do not want to be. If its anything like whatcom creek I'm good haha. I would rather be on the nooksack even though they are much harder to come by. A lot more peaceful.

Re: Nooksack Boundarys??
I've always assumed "the line" was at slater road. I agree with bodo though. I've fished down river from the slater road bridge and there always seems to be a decent amount of people down there. The natives net quite a bit though so you tend to be waiting more than fishing so they can drift on by an...

Re: Nooksack Boundarys??
I've had most of my success at harksell rd or at flynn bar near lynden. Kinda looking forward to trying for chum this year a little more than I have the last couple of years

Re: BC Rivers
I have a couple friends that fish on vancouver island ever year in either ucluelet or bamfield on the westside. If I recall they really only fished in the salt, but always came back with fish and some great stories. I have fished the frazier river around hope during the sockeye run and if you are a ...

Re: Coho Counts on the nooksack
Nope it was a terrible year for me on the nooksack as well. I only got 4 coho. I did ok on the pinks, but the silvers are what I really look forward to on that river. Not sure what is going on, but I'm sure that there are several factors that are contributing to the less than stellar returns. Gettin...

Re: Nooksack coho!
I doubt there is really enough fish up there yet to make a trip worth it. I tend to go towards the end of october. However, with all this rain we have got up here that could change really quick.

Nooksack coho!
Figured I'd start this up for anyone who may be fishing this river! I have been doing ok fishing around the Lynden and ferndale area, but haven't really seen a whole lot of action this last week. How's everyone else doing? Am I the only one struggling right now
