Hi Grayson, Welcome! I don't know anything about NY fishing, but I think spooling with fluorocarbon would be a bit of waste of money and would go with mono or braid. I prefer braid for almost all applications, except when you need the extra stretch of mono, like the soft-mouthed kokanee we have here...

I use Knots 3d, Tides Near Me, and Navionics. I have the Coast Guard app, but not all that useful. If you happen to be crossing the border when its back open the CBP ROAM app i useful (though I am a bit nervous about having a CBP app on my phone).
