Looking to trade a 9'6" 6-12lb Okuma SST tip for an old style SST tip: Will trade with a new tip+cash
Hi all: An odd request. A while back I smashed my SST into my cooler bag while casting. The result was predictable. Unfortunately this was after Okuma ceased production of that particular rod. I got in touch with Okuma recently and they offered to sell me a new style SST tip. The tip works just fine...

Re: How to find salmon in the sound
A very open-ended request. We would all love to help but need more info. What kind of fishfinder, boat and gear do you have? I assume you are fishing MA 10 for coho. You can get the resident coho mooching but they are primarily downrigger show. Are you looking for help setting up your fishfinder or...

How to find salmon in the sound
I've been struggling to mark a single fish on the sound. I'm out trolling at what I think is jefferson head (I'm not sure what jefferson head is to be honest. I think it's the drop off between presidents and jeffersons point) and haven't marked a single fish. I've tried following terrain contours wi...

Re: New to fishing in WA state! Question about lures.
Large Kastmaster's are great but I'd recommend Les Davis Herring Dodgers for the Sound. The barbs on any lure or hooks must be pinched off. What area will you be fishing? im in the marysville area. the issue is i havent fished in WA state yet. i grew up in hawaii fishing the shore there but i have ...

Re: Versitile Lingcod Rod
You don't have to go big on Lingcod. That setup sounds way too heavy/stout. There are many budget friendly setups that would work for both Lings and the other species you mention. You could get an Okuma Celilo or SST and pair to an inexpensive spinning or baitcaster for around $100 total. I like so...

Hatchery Steelhead Escapements: Am I missing something?
Tokul Creek, Reiter Ponds, and Wallace River Hatchery are the three main producers of Steelhead in the Puget Sound. And from what I am seeing: All three have seen double digit returns of fish. Am I grossly misinterpreting the escapement reports? It actually looks like we may have even fewer Puget So...

Re: Why are Chum so Green in Saltwater?
It's the hormones that dictate the physical change, not the water. Salmon that wait too long to go up into the fresh water will still change in the salt. That's why you start to see hook nosed Coho or humped up Pinks in the salt later during that run. Seems like MOST salmon make it into fresh water...

Why are Chum so Green in Saltwater?
I was fishing my favorite Sea Run Cutty beach only to be surprised by not one, but two male Chum Salmon holding right where the creek meets the beach. After a few minutes of fishing, I looked over the beach to see another fish slowly making its way to the creek. The thing that surprised me was that ...

Minter Creek During the Week
If hiring a charter is like hiring an escort, I feel like Minter creek is like a cheap prostitute. But much like with women, my bad luck and inexperience has led to me not picking up any adult salmon this year. I've been thinking about heading there, but so I am prepared for the zoo it is, how is it...

Versitile Lingcod Rod
Last Lingcod season I tried jigging with my Shimano Talora, and with my XXH 5'6 Halibut rod. Both experiences felt awkward. I would like to get a rod for Lings, but considering how short the season is I am not sure it is worth buying a dedicated Lingcod rod. I'd like something I could use for either...

Re: Fall Salmon Fishing Puget Sound Area
I catch coho in the rivers until January almost February every year, lots are dime bright ones too (not that I can keep them that time of year since I'm steelhead fishing and they're not open). The water has been hit and miss since I am busy working M-F.. either blown out or too low it seems. But t...

Fall Salmon Fishing Puget Sound Area
I just opened up the regs and saw that Area 10 is open for Coho. Are there any Coho left in the sound this time of the year? I have been busy with school, so I couldn't hit the lower rivers at their peak in September-early October. Is it too late for me to pick some fish up without a roadtrip East?

I got sand and mud in my Sedona. I tried cleaning it out myself, and instead damaged the main gear, and lost the clicker. Is there a place I can get the reel serviced? I tried Johns but they don't do spinning reels

Re: Salmon Steelhead Rod/reel Under $150
All the reels you mentioned are fine...but on the low end of quality. They will do the job though. I like 3000 series spinning reels for Coho fishing (really a 2500 with a slightly larger spool capacity). Considering right now the Sedona was the best reel I ever used and all I have to compare my Se...
