Never caught a bass on a topwater, ive tried many of times. What am i doing wrong or wut lures should i be using

Goin fishing, set up a rod wit a drop shot rig, the other with a spinner, gunna go see how it works out. Will post results later.

I was in erie, PA. I used crainkbaits out there and would kill em but nothing is hitting when i use them.
