Re: 2012 Trophy Bass picture Galley

Thanks, Jipper! She was a short, fat fish and weighed around 7-1/2 pounds. I was using an 8 foot swimbait rod, Shimano Calcutta 401 TE spooled with 80 lb. Tuf-Line XP to a 25 lb. Seaguar Premier fluorocarbon leader. She pulled hard but the equipment required to throw these heavy lures handles the bi...

Nice fish, everyone! Congrats on your new PB, Hawghunter. That is a beast.

This fat fish from Saturday choked down an 8 inch ROF12 Huddleston.

Re: 2012 Trophy Bass picture Galley

Ditch Pickler, always love the videos...Keep 'em coming! Yesterday was the third day following the full moon, coupled with a low pressure system moving through the area. Figured it was a good evening to get in my first largemouth outing of the year. Caught some nice fish on a prototype swimbait, inc...

Re: 2012 Trophy Bass picture Galley

Congratulations on a new personal best, Elijah! That is an amazing catch and it's awesome you were able to capture it all on video. I enjoyed the footage. What a healthy, beautiful fish. Way to promote CPR as well. I fished Table Rock a couple days last week while I was in Missouri for work, but hav...

Re: Bass and Baitfish?

Depending on the body of water and the side of the state you are fishing, some of the key forage fish may include: yellow perch, juvenile bass and walleye, peamouth chub, salmon smolt, longfin smelt, stickleback, sculpin, bullhead cats, shad (Columbia River), juvenile carp, juvenile squawfish, blueg...

Re: Brand New Method For Wacky Rigging Large Stickbaits

Hey Mr. Elijah, Thanks for the reply. I think you'll be shocked what size bass can and will engulf the jumbo-sized plastics. I get on the water very rarely in recent years. But when I do, I like to throw bigger baits almost exclusively. I definitely catch plenty of smaller fish on big swimbaits, lar...

Re: Brand New Method For Wacky Rigging Large Stickbaits

A friend of mine pours 10" salt-impregnated stickbaits called P-Stix. You can purchase them at Bass Tackle Depot. http://www.basstackledepot.com/p-stix-10-inch.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I have caught quite a few bass with these lures, both Texas-rigged and wacky-rigged. I c...

Re: Trophy Bass Pics 2011

Thank you very much for the kind words, guys. The good news is that big bass live in nearly all our lowland Western Washington lakes. The lake doesn't really matter. It's identifying where the likely big bass hangouts are in each fishery and making a good presentation. Take care and hook 'em hard, Tag

RE:Looking for a bass fishin' mentor

Hey Gavran, Great to see your passion for bass fishing and your enthusiasm to learn and improve. The neat thing about bass fishing is you never stop learning. I live north of you a ways up in Bellingham and my time on the water is extremely limited these days. However, I would be more than happy to ...

RE:WL.com "Not Quite Trophy But Still Nice Bass Pictures" Gallery 2011

Got a decent Largie this morning on Sammamish. :-" A 5-7 [biggrin] on a Senko from some semi-isolated pads. She wrapped around the pads a couple times and I had to go in and untie her. The next cast hooked 4 to 4 1/2 lber. After a few seconds the hook broke at the bend. [blink] Nice largie, AMX! Th...

RE:Lost The Big One!

Sorry to hear about the big one cleaning you out. You'll learn from this experience, make the necessary adjustments, and land her on the next go round. Occasional lost fish are a part of bass fishing. Keep in mind, however, there are a number of things you can do from an equipment and technique stan...

RE:Getting Discourage

Great posts, everyone. I would argue that the bass aren't necessarily "smarter" up here. I don't believe bass "think", as much as "react" to their environment and changing conditions. Outside of the spawning season, bass are in search of three primary things, which contribute to their location and a...

Hey atb, Definitely don't get discouraged. There is so much to learn in bass fishing. Try your best to enjoy the journey and learning process. Bass fishing is extremely humbling, but try to focus on all the small successes, as trivial as they may seem at the time. If your main goals are to have as m...

RE:Spro frogs turning into a gummy mess...

Anytime you are dealing with rubber skirt material like the legs on hollow body frogs, this scenario becomes a possibility over time. The best thing you can do to help prevent this from happening is to store your frogs as dry as possible in a moisture free box after use. Also, try to avoid the box b...

RE:State Record Largemouth Bass

Amazing fish, Ragin'! Hats off to you not only for the incredible catches, but for getting your trophies back in the water as soon as possible to not stress them out. Also, proof that night fishing during the summer can be one of your best chances at the fish (or two) of a lifetime. Well done and co...
