Fish finders Side scan etc

Post by spokanebassman2 » Tue Nov 20, 2012 11:17 am

Hi there!!

Hope some bassers are still reading this feed! I'm looking to upgrade my electronics on my
Bass boat and wanted to see what people use and what people think are the best values
in fish finders.

I would like to have side imaging and possibly GPS for marking spots to come back to
on different trips. I would like it to be under $1000.

Thanks in advance.

EB

Under $1,000 would be only the Lowrance HDS5x or HDS5, with and without GPS, look on the Lowrance web sight, with downscan, no Structure Scan, but it can be added later, which is what I'm going to have to do.

Side scan is Humminbird, I have no idea what is available and how much $$ for Humminbird.

I'm going to have to save money until May to be able to afford what I want, and hope I can save enough.

In my opinion the best unit for the price is an HDS8, but it's over $1,000. The 9", 10" and 12" are WAY EXPENSIVE.

Then there are the touch screens which I'm not interested in, and they are half again more costly than the non-touch screen units, then you are in danger of continualy cleaning the screen from your finger prints, and so maybe scratching the screen with your fingernails, and any dirt on the rag. And the cost of that WaveAway stuff is over $14 for a small bottle and rag. Yes, you can make your own cleaner, there was a thread on here a summer or 2 ago on how to make it.

You can also call Limit Out Marine for the best info.

Generally it seems that the down imaging setups run a bit cheaper than the side imaging. Picking up a discontinued model can save you a bunch of money as well.

Spokanebassman,

I have the
HUMMINBIRD 798CISI

http://fishfinders.factoryoutletstore.c ... combo.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Sorry.. the cut and paste is getting goofy... Anyway, while I cannot give you much of a report on my actually using the side imaging, I will say that it looks REALLY DARN NICE. I mostly troll for cutthroat or salmon. I just wanted to tell you to look at Humminbird's user forum. Google around and you will find it. You will REALLY get the detailed info. you want from that forum. Those guys are dialed in, with seperate forum on each model.
I have nothing but positive things to say about my unit otherwise. It has a TON of depth within the user's guide. Also, if you look into another forum member, RSEAS, is his name. He did all the homework on this model before buying it, and he is a sharp dude. I pretty much spent my money on what homework he did.
