Northport big sheep creek

Post by sanfrandan » Tue Jun 24, 2008 5:15 pm

I am curious if anyone has been up to Northport this season yet? I went once last June 07 and did ok. The ranger said it was unusually slow that year. I thought maybe with the extra water this year it might have improved. If anyone has info or a story about this creek I would love to hear it. Thanks FISH ON!!

My family had fished fished sheep creek since the 30s. Water level is everything when water gets low the ospreys keep the fish on the bottom. We leave tomorrow for 12 days there should be great.

We bank fish this area once or twice for several winters now. Fishing is always slow, but if we get 5 fish between the 3 of us, we call it a successful trip.

Our biggest fish are around the 4lb. class. The big attraction is fishing the holes up off of the Wanita road. The fish hang on the edges of the current. contents in the bellies of these red banded bows is usually snails. We mostly fish off of the bottom with worms or eggs, or fish the seams with the same under a float. We haven't figured it out (dialed it in) yet, but we'll keep coming back. The scenery and fishery is unbeatable.
