I don't know the specifics, and I'm not saying I support it in any way....but if he's a native, isn't that technically legal on that river if he's a native guide?

Again, not saying I agree with it...but if he's within the confines of the law, nothing we can really say about that one.

Maybe I'm wrong about the legality of it?

Its legal on the quinault but they manage the fishery well enough to be able to sustain keeping those fish, especially with their effective broodstock program

Speaking of big steelhead, has anyone seen the monsterhanging out in tokul creek? Up past the no fishing boundary below the fish damn. It looked to be moldy but that thing was huge! It was chasing around some chrome fish in the same spot and they looked like little trout next to the thing.

Check out this recently caught 31 pound native on the Quinault (by a guide). Not going to name the guide, but a search of Quinault fishing guides on FaceBook should pull it up.

WOW!!! that thing is huge.......truly looks to be 31 pounds.....I know some on here that would have said they taped that fish or weighed it and would have called it 45 or 50 pounds. No long arming on that fish!

I have always called it 18 pounds but to get technical it was almost 18.25 the biggest steelhead I have landed. I have seen pics of 20+ pounders that where much smaller, if you know what I mean. I never could understand why people have to add so much to there fish weight.

To give you a "true" 20 lb steelhead for comparison, we got this fish last week that measured at 41 by 19.75 putting it just barely over 20. So anything smaller it aint a 20

NW Outdoors radio this morning made a big deal about the Nooksack river in Whatcom having made a great come back for steelhead. Unfortunately most of it is closed as of 1-31. There is one section of the north fork still open. Might have to check it out next year.

Seriously? Looks like somebody is taking advantage of the new marijuana laws. The Nooksack is a disaster and a total waste of time for steelhead fishing.

Unfortunately its kinda one of those " c ant see the forest through the trees" kinda thing. They have a great resource, and they work it over hard. I used to keep every fish I caught over there. Thats just how we were taught. Thats how they do it, now I release everything I can confirm as a native and they look at me like I got bugs crawling out of my nose. Its going to get worse as more and more pressure gets put on those rivers.

We need to release the wild fish so the natives can net them in a couple years when they return.

good for you spoon. i follow the same protocol. many "sportsmen" flock there to Get their jolllys killing giant fish that taste just ok. pressure is the root of all evil in fishing. the culture its changing out there little by little. oh rac most sport fishing takes place,above the nets.

I dont know where theyve been fishing... Lol. I floated the Nf and main multiple times this last month and only caught a few hatch fish... Not a single wild fish. Also saw quite a few tribal nets... The nooksack has been dead for many years IMO

I've been fishing it for 3 years on foot and I've seen 1! ONE steelhead! I do well everywhere else. The Nutsack is indeed dead!
