Yea i love chum fishing too, mainly because its completely realistic to catch 20+ fish a day and they fight like HELL! Whats the best rigs/colors for chum you can think to use in a river like the north fork of the nooksack? i dont fish um much

In the river it doesn't really matter. I use that orange and purple combination you see in the picture. In the estuary I use bright yellow yarn. When there's no current on account of high tide, I just jig it in. Like's been said in other threads in the salt proper I use a bobber and herring, vibrax spinner or a buzz bomb. They are cranky fish. The bite anything that looks natural enough to piss 'em off. In the flats where they spawn, I've put my corky in the water at least five feet from the nearest fish when they weren't all spooked and it just swam up and nailed it. They're mean. They even bite eachother. I watch one fish drag another fish off across the hole by the tail on sunday. Some of the brighter fish had already started growing fungus because they'd been biting each other and fighting the whole way up from the salt.

And using corky's and cheap gear in the river lets you break the gross ones off guilt free when you don't want to touch 'em. I don't know if that fungus is contagious or not, but I sure don't want to find out.

The eye's not missing, he was very much alive and lively. He's just looking down and crosseyed. Look at all the picks of fish still in the water and you'll see that that's how they look. Chum bite each other, scraping off the protective mucous or "slime" that keeps infection away, so they get nastier than they normally would quicker than usual. They also spawn in smaller streams a lot of the time so they rub up against rocks which leave wounds that are readily infected.

Since we are talking about chum. Anyone know any good spots on the NF Nooksack? My only place to fish for them was Whatcom Creek, but theres way to much snaggers now and it annoys me.

NF nooksack has a great dog run. The best hole ive seen in the big run right above the mosquito lake rd bridge right above where the middle fork meets. Mid-november to december it ALWAYS has doggies in it. Always

Nice job FF!!!!! I loved fishing the Sak when I lived in BHam. Took a lot of Steel and many hundreds of Doggies out of there. I stopped most most days on the way home from work and wetted a line. Caught a lot of fish pretty close to the mouth, I live a few block out of Marietta. Great memeories and good job! I used to bag a lot doggies just under the museum and many Steelhead in Squalicum creek, Pulled a few out of hole just below the little falls in Cornwall Park. Boy was that fun! Memories.....

My dad use to do the same thing! He fished squalicum all the time when he was a kid for steelhead and searun Cutts. Back a few years ago when squalicum was still open in the Winter I fished it, thinking it was too small, polluted and dirty for steelhead anymore, to my suprise, I hit 6 chrome native steelhead in January, all realeased unharmed. Its closed for winter now, but it just goes to show you theyre still alive in there! I got a few where baker creek comes in, one in the cornwall park hole you mentioned, and 3 more downstream in the hole under the first road crossing above the bridge. When i hit that fish in cornwall park, there were people walking around, dogs jumping in the water on the other side and kids throwing rocks. I think everyone was suprised when they saw a chrome 10 pounder come flying out of the water 7 or 8 times going nuts in that hole!

Hahahahaha! My rims are chrome too! After all, I never wash 'em and they've got some green and orange lichen stuck in the spokes. Naw, but that's a pretty lively chum for that high in the river.

havnt been on for awhile but did really well on the tilton caught alot of kings and nice fresh chrome cohos it was fun.found a secret creek has so many fresh kings but its hard to fish in it is in the middle of a jungle it might be a little stream of tilton but the regular tilton has better fish there doing good right now

Fished the Cascade today, WOW is there a lot of hungry, dark coho in there. Managed a few chromers, and landed like 25 or so on float and eggs. Even managed my first winter run, bout a 5 or 6 lb buck. Check the pictures
