Thanks! I probably drifted past ya a couple hundred times that day! We camped out up river the night before and hit the water at first light. Found both fish hanging around the Wallace. The king was basically sitting at the Stairway to Heaven.
finally got the video off my camera, converted, and compressed. this was king #2 opening day on the sky. scaled out at 25.3 lbs. this is the last 6 minutes of a 20-25 minutes fight with this beast.
Does anyone know how the bank looks like around the mouth of the wallace? Is it flooded or good access with waders? I've never been down there but planning on going there on Saturday. Is it better to walk down to the bridge on the tracks or to walk on the shore of the river?

Nice fish! We drifted that same section below the Wallace probably 30+ times on Sat. The fish were in there, you just had to smack them in the face with your eggs to get them to even see your bait because of water clarity.

We had something working for us that day as we brought in 3 of them. All 3 were from different sections of the river too. I just hope it keeps up through the rest of the season.

Gotta give some credit to g loomis on the rod. Things held strong but was certainly bent to the limit. Was a great time.
I up my tackle when I'm fishing kings, especially in heavy flows like we're having now. I don't like losing big fish! And when the bite does turn on, I like to bring htem in a little quicker so that we can hit more fish. But there is something epic about getting a big chinook on that ultra light tackle. Biggest king I caught was on 8 pound while fishing for coho. 56 pounds of shoulders, man that was a lot of work!

Am I reading this correctly? You landed a 56lb king on 8lb leader?

I fought it about a mile and a half down the river, went swimming a couple of times. 2 hours of babying it, getting it off the bottom a couple of feet and it swims back down. Rolled it over and got it into the net. They didn't have go pros back then, it would have made a great video.
