i want to go fishing this weekend but the girlfriend wants to sit by a campfire so i am hoping we can both win. I see fire pits all over the river but nobody ever using them. Is it legal? (obvioulsy when i am done i will put fire would go out).

i am thinking of the skykomish but trying to think of a place to carry some firewood into without treking it for 1/2 a mile.

That's a good question, I've wondered the same thing. Guess it depends on who owns the land? There are few spots along the Sky just up from the mouth of the Wallace I've thought about doing that with the family, but always had the same question.

I've made tons of fires on the river bank. Nothing like a fire cooked salmon you caught 20 minutes ago. Or just to warm myself up on cold days. No one has ever said anything to me about it.

I have had tons of fires on river banks. Only had the fire dept. come down once and they were just making sure I wasnt burning garbage.

as far as I know their are no burn bans in effect now. I know a guy who got a ticket on a part of the skokomish for having a fire next to the river during a burn ban.

It should be completely fine. As far as WHAT you can burn, any deadfall is fair game. Stuff along the banks, or in the bushes. DO NOT cut down any timber or even knock down free-standing dead timber. That would be a violation. Otherwise grab any of the sticks around on the bank and go to town.

I grew up on the Sky and we would have huge bon fires on the beaches with no trouble from the law as long as we packed out any garbage. They might complain if a burn ban was in effect ect.

WOOOOO!! Now i can make fires and warm up on the cold mornings in between fishing.
If i remember correctly, you can't burn drift wood. some of the fishing areas I go to have pre cut timber that people harvest but can't load all of it into there trailer. just need to bring a axe or kukri to chop em into smaller pieces.
Fresh cooked salmon/steelhead on the river sounds delicious
