Welp me and the wife decided to try the puyallup labor day needles to say it was frikken PACKED so we headed to the green river. i dont know this area all that well so i picked up 2 punch cards for salmon/steelhead and headed down toward one of the big bridges notice about 15people out there fishing so i figure hey im good. needles to say fish and game warden comes by with coat over his badge and tells me rivers closed i tell him Oh im sry i dident know look at all the people fishing i thought there would not be so many if it was closed and im sry about that. My wife pops off with Who the hell are YOU! and he decides to take offense took my lincese and hers and cameback. proceded to tell her off a tad which made my job alot easier! and then gave back fishing licenses and told me to expect NOT 1 BUT 2 250$ fines in mail since she got nasty with him! So my day turned bad FAST!
So question is do they really send tickets thru the mail i think he was just trying to scare us but not sure. i was so mad that she got mouthy i dont got 500$ to spend so we got into a huge fight about it. which helped nothing! but i was pissed.
SO LONG STORY SHORT IM GETTING A REG BOOK AND EVERYONE ELSE SHOULD ALSO! dont trust gut instinct just cause the shores are packed with people fishing! LESSON LEARNED FOR ME

Atrocious that sux dude. But this might be your lucky day. Fish and game cops don't send tickets by mail. If they were going to give you one I'm 75 percent sure they would've given it to you on the spot. Can't say for 100 percent sure though. Hope this lessens the blow buddy.

i think she leashed herself after that game warden ripped her a new one! she was just having a bad day and its that time of the month so that dident help eather normally shes pretty quiet. game warden looked like a wierdo like i told her never judge a book by its cover tho! i knew he was the game warden just by his demeanor and dress. cant believe that many idiots were fishing illegal tho. i really would not have fished there if i knew it was not open. i even went down to get my punch cards and mark my last catch with tommy. and try to abide by laws just truly sucks cause if i do get them tickets i cannot pay them my car is F'ed and now this. been bad luck after bad luck.
Lesson learned i told her from now on when a guy comes up talking i do the talking and u shush. if its a girl u can talk then! shes got me into more then one incident with her mouth.
Hey tommy hows fishing been bro? and thanks for info guys truly hope i got off easy cause if not im gonna be dipping into savings thats been dwindling very fast this year!

I doubt you'll get a ticket. You would think they'd have to give you something right there if they were going to cite you. Plus, wouldn't the fine be like $110 each? That seems to be the number I always hear when it come to fines. Anyway, sorry about the bad day and the fight with the wife. I'd fight the ticket. I'd expect the Warden to make an announcement to the crowd that the river is closed and hand out some more tickets. You got singled out, that some B.S. right there.
DISCLAIMER: You should always be aware of the regs and I'm not condoning violating them, but people makes mistakes and when you see other people fishing it is easy to think you are safe to do the same. READ THE REGS.

That sucks bro. Sorry to beat a dead horse, but always check the regs. I had to stop a guy from fishing after he retained four adults on Sunday. I was fishing next to an undercover game warden today. He had a rod and gear too. I saw him walking around and watching people more then he was fishing. He had his rod in a rod holder most of the time. That tipped me off. I follow the rules, so I wasn't really concerned with him.

I know that one well. My Ex was a loaded cannon. Got me into more than one mess...... a bunch of Bandito's for one and I had my car torn apart at the CN border....... The last straw was attacking me when I was asleep with a cast iron skillet filled with something she was cooking..... Keep your eyes peeled bro!

Hi Guys.
I just wanted to politely share with you that we in the law enforcement community do frequently send tickets in the mail and this method of enforcement is not uncommon. This procedure is often used to save time at a location. My guess is the WDFW Officer contacted many that day, got their information, and will complete tickets at his office which would then be mailed out to each individual.
Throughout my 21 years in this business I have always said that kindness will get you everywhere, especially with me. So I am not surprised to hear that this happened or the officer's response to it. As with most people, all we ask for is a little respect which I assure you will go along way with most of us in this business. I love being able to give someone a warning and with respect to all, I am not sure why some folks think it is to their benefit or acceptable behavior to be rude or disrespectful to officers who are out there doing their jobs. On the other side of this, I also understand why the public sometimes feels animosity towards law enforcement. We all know that in most professions and businesses there are those who are disrespectful to others including those in the law enforcement field. Unfortunately those few officers who act in a disrespectful manner towards the public are the ones who generate ill feelings the public sometimes harbors towards those in uniform.
I am sorry to hear about your experience and your message for everyone to check the regulations before fishing is sound advice. Take care all and as always, good luck fishing.

Im agreeing with Dave in that, I know the WSP WILL and DOES send them when they say they will. Got one for putting my car in the ditch in the rain. No one was hurt and nothing got damaged. Driving to fast for conditions. I really was hoping he was BSing me but alas... $150 fine showed up 4 days later. I hope you get lucky with this one.

Dude, find out where you were fishing on a map. From September 1st on, the Green is open for salmon from the mouth all the way to the South 277th Bridge, which is just North of the Auburn golf course. That's a big stretch of water, mistakes have been made before, it never hurts to check.

i was right next to the golf course man. u know where the lil park is and the big brown bridge i was like 1/4 mile down from the bridge. there were like 15 people fishing and my luck is the wife gets mouthy and probably got us both tickets. This year cant get any better for me. Thanks for advice guys im a just try to keep my head up and trudge thru the crap thats piled so thick this year it will take me another year to get outta this years bills.
Hard lesson learned i just wanted to post this so people heed warning READ and GET REG BOOKS! Not like it will help u need to be a damn rocket scientist to abide by all the regulations put on the rivers if u ask me.

If I'm not mistaken a Warden must show ID or have his badge out. Just like any policeman. They usually write tickets and or confiscate your gear. Then after the hearing and you pay your fine and get your gear back.

I was approched by an Officer twice. The 1st time was in '73, I was sitting on the dock on Lake Meridian on opening day and he asked if I was doing any good. Then he showed me his badge and asked to see my license. The send time I was on my current bass boat along the sunken forrest on Lake Sammamich a few years ago. They announced who they were, then they asked if they could come alongside to check my license. They were in a small/12 foot? row boat.

It would appear that you were indeed fishing upstream of the 277th bridge, most unfortunate. I hear you on the river regs. You need a good map, like the Gazetteer, to follow them all. Hunting regs are just as bad, if not worse, especially when it comes to area boundaries. Also, don't forget to check the WDFW website for emergency rule changes before you head out to fish as they can change at a moments notice.

Yesterday, I stopped at Rockport to see if I could see any Pinks from the boat launch at the Howard Miller Steelhead Park;I did not see any. However ,I noticed Six or eight fisherman fishing from shore below the bridge. What were they fishing for?
When I read the regs, The Skagit above Concrete does not open until Sept. 16th

Sorry about your luck man. Women have the tendency to open their mouths which gets US men in trouble. Ah well!
Just a few days ago when the tide was out on the Nisqually my friend and I were out underneath the I-5 bridge and were aqqroached by officers. Both of us were fishing legal, but I guess we were in part of the Nisqually Refuge waters and were asked to leave. I have fished this piece of water countless times for countless hours even being approached by a Warden a couple years ago and was not asked to leave. Needless to say my friend and I were both nice to the officers and got off without being given tickets. So as Dave has said, being kind to the officers can get you out of trouble as it did for us
