Well that's not just another fish story, it's a really cool fish story and I'd count it as caught. You'd have let it go anyway right? Sorry to hear and see that your netting let you down. I'd bring bring it back to whomever sold it to you, tell them your story and shame them into giving you a new one. I switched out all my netting last year to a new knotless style that still has a deep belly and a standard sized mesh. It is sold with the Danielson name and once a fish is in it and you close the mouth, it isn't coming out with out your approval. I just don't trust those flat bottom or rubber nets to keep a fish under control. Love those pics, looks like it was a fantastic day to be out on the river!

I too think your net was defective and should be replaced. The netting was nicked or very brittle.
