Sturgeon in Riffe Lake?

Post by phishphool » Wed Jul 04, 2012 5:02 am

Last weekend at the Kosmos boat launch at Riffe Lake, we saw the carcass of a sturgeon that had been cleaned at the boat launch. Are there sturgeon in the lake?

The one at Kosmos wasn't a big one either. Not sure if it would have been undersized or not, but definetly on the small side of legal.

Not to take anyone's dreams away, but there was a similar happening as this one, a few years ago where someone fileted their sturgeon carcass from a Columbia trip, and then dropped it at a boat launch of some other lake.... Got everybody into a buzz about Sturgeon in that lake.
Who knows, maybe somebody is playing a trick on people. Or maybe you need to pull out the sturgeon gear at Riffe.

hard to say but I wouldn't be surprised if a sturgeon was cruising Riffe from either bucket(big bucket)bios or other methods. There's at least one sturgeon roaming Lake Tapps

Several years ago, a friend of mine had gone fishing out of Westport and caught a few nice Kings. On the way home, he had his wife let him out on the highway by Rimrock Lake and he walked down the highway with a couple of those salmon. People driving by would almost run off the road looking at those fish. LOL I am sure he tricked quit a few people into believing that those big fish came out of Rimrock. [biggrin]

A few years back I was bass fishing Alder Lake. In about ten feet of water I saw the white belly of a very large fish laying dead on the bottom. It looked like a shark, so finally I put a weighted hook down and snagged it. Turns out it was a salt water dog fish. Obviously, it was not native. How it got in the lake, only the Lord knows. But the answer may be the same for the suspect sturgeon.
