New to Fishing.

I am in the Vancouver, Wa area. I have a young man(12yr/M) that would love to fish Battle Ground Lake, Klineline Pond, or Lacamas Lake. I've never fished a day in my life. I don't know the first thing about it, but I wouldn't mind learning from a local. His mom bought him a bunch of fishing stuff for Christmas and now it's time put it to use. What's the best way to go about this?? Any and all ideas welcome??

Try posting this same question on the NWFR Facebook page....I wouldn't be surprised if you get some suggestions from local fishermen. I don't know much about those lakes, but imagine they're similar to ours and hold trout. To start, either PowerBait on a sliding hook rig off the bottom (cast and let it sit), or Powerbait under a bobber. Good luck!

PS. Make sure you read the WDFW fishing regulations on those lakes to see if they're open when you go. Some lakes are open year-round, but others are closed during the winter.

Is there a specific species you would like to catch? Bobber and worm if not. That's how I started as a kid and the rig catches everything that swims.
