If there was only one...
If there was only one species of fish. Fresh or salt water. Only one type of fish to target.
What species would you want it to be? Why?

Salmon...my favorite. One can fish salt and fresh for them.

I would have to agree with Tom. Targeting bass fulfills all of my fishing needs. Why?
(not in any particular order or rank)
1) I can get the kids onto fish (small, but still fish)
2) The challenge of finding their location on any particular day.
3) Variety of lures and tactics.
4) Super cool boats!
5) The opportunity for fierce competition.
6) The ribbing and rivalries that arise from the competition.
7) Large network of anglers for social and educational networking.
8) I don't eat fish, so the C&R mindset fits me well.
9) It is just plain fun.

I must agree,as much as I love my pike and musky.... I really enjoy bass fishing. Well maybe its a very close tie but I stillbcalvert wrote:I would have to agree with Tom. Targeting bass fulfills all of my fishing needs. Why?

think I'd choose bass. What I also like about bass fishing is that it is easier to include the family. This is not to say bass'n is easy but I usually can get my son to catch a very small bass. I've noticed that kids don't care about size at all
and are typically more than happy to catch anything. Where as musky, several hours in a boat can make kids have a negative view on fishing and you might here something like "I'm bored" and the next time you talk about a potential trip, you might get the rolling eyes effect.
Hope this makes sense

Salmon. You can catch them in so many different ways. They get big. They fight exceptionally well, and they taste so good. :bounce: :bounce:

Only one? Well, then I'd probably not fish. Have to remember not all of us have the good fortune of living on the coast so we can't all enjoy what appears to be the #1 favorite - salmon. Panfish & walleye would be my other choice, but panfish aren't a species. [lol]RaMcVey wrote:If there was only one species of fish. Fresh or salt water. Only one type of fish to target.

RE:If there was only one...
Forget those dirty salmon, I would pick halibut for saltwater, walleye or crappie for freshwater.

Thinking of my fellow sportsman I would have to say (this hurts) trout... lol Because you Salmon fisherman will have the stealhead runs and the majority of the population will still get to go fishing:cheers: If trout fishing here wasn't so dang fun I would say bass
