Foam

Post by Mossy » Fri Sep 28, 2007 12:06 am

Redoing my bench seats and I'm looking for some foam to fill them with. Any ideas on where to get some? I was told about a 2 part liquid foam but I think it's spendy.

I am going to mod my 12ft jon boat, I am thinking about taking the front bench completely out and building a deck in the front that sets lower in the boat that way it isnt so top heavy, do you have to have the foam in the at all? I am going to put a foot controll trolling motor and a livewell in there somewhere, so I pretty much have to take the front bench out.

I just took a seat cushion from my deck furniture and bungie-corded it to the bench in my boat. If you want a less redneck solution, I would go to JoAnn Fabrics or Ben Franklin and look/ask for seat cushion foam. Since it is going to be outside and around water you probably would be better off with a closed cell foam. You may even want to check out Fred Meyer or Target to see if they have a cheap knockoff tempurpedic foam pillow and just cut it to size.

I think Mossy is looking for flotation foam.

dilbert's right, I was looking for flotation foam. I found some at an insulation company, didn't think when I threw the old stuff away that I would have to spend $70 to replace it. Oh well, live and learn I guess.

Felts, I have a V hull with a front bench seat, the sides are aluminum with a lip to attach plywood on the top to, I am leaving the sides in and cutting out a piece(triangular shaped) to turn it into a casting deck. I am going to fill the inside of the bench part with foam and the rest of the space under the casting deck will be storage(cutting a lid in the new deck). I'm not sure what the specs are as to how much flotation you need for a boat legally but I know of guys who take out the middle seat entirely. So to answer your question, I don't know.
