Ellamella,
I too have been bitten by the ice cream maker bug. I have the William Sonoma ice cream maker. It is AMAZING! It does not require ANY sort of putting the unit in the freezer. You literally pour all your ingredients into the machine, hit a button, come back and your ice cream is HARD.
As far as recipe ideas, I suggest picking up Molly Moon’s recipe book. Molly Moon’s is an ice cream proprietor in Seattle. There book is totally true to their in store ice cream. I love to make their salted caramel.
Ice cream maker - any recipe ideas?

I bought a Ice Cream machine years ago. There isn't a ice cream on the market that is as good as home made. I did a vanilla with fresh fruits in it. I had to pack the machine away. I was eating way too much.
