Well I got my light last night and went and tested it out. It worked pretty darn well. Actually, I was hitting them more than the Asian regulars, and they came over to try fishing by my light.

So what I tried was colored light. I got a 50w LED floodlight that does 16 different colors. It came with a remote so you can pick your color at any time. The 2 main colors I was interested in were blue and green. They sell green fishing lights online, and there are plenty of articles about using green lights because blue and green penetrate through water the furthest.

There is definitely something to it. The other guys were using the standard floodlight setup with white light, and they were hitting squid. But my light did seem to outperform theirs to the point that they came over to fish with me for a bit and they were checking it out.

Blue did the best, and green wasn't far behind. Overall, it was still a slow night, but I was hitting more than the guys with the white floodlights, so I'm a believer that there is something to the whole colored light thing.

Drove up to the sound and tried my hand at squidding for the very first time ever. I managed to pick up one off the Illahee dock but that was it for a couple hours effort. The next day while blackmouth fishing (unsuccessfully) from my kayak near Manchester I was marking large schools of squid between 80-100'. I tried jigging for them and had fairly good success catching several in a just a few minutes including some larger squid around 11 to 12". Pretty neat fishery for sure!

Well the squid seem to be thickening up a bit. Most have eggs, and they are pretty aggressive too. Looks like it's spawning time. Had my best night of the season last night. Had the pier to myself for about 2 hours after the other guys left and I was slaying them. Hitting doubles, and even got 2 squid on the same jig...first time that's ever happened for me. Pic attached.

I probably came home with 3 lbs...still far from a limit, but as slow as this season has been, that was my best night by far.
