Guy had to be asleep! That close they both should have smelled each other.

I was elk hunting a few years back and fell asleep in the sunshine. I woke up and a bobcat was sitting 6 feet in front of me just looking at me. I guess he was just curious as to what was snoring on his turf.

I bet that guy could feel the hot breath of that bull elk blowing down his neck! Wow! What an experience.
