Good deal on .223 ammo

Post by dutchman2858 » Sun Sep 17, 2017 3:43 pm

I got a tip from an A-R rifle website: Walmart has Federal/American Eagle black box .223 on sale for $5/20. Price shown might be $6.76 or so, but have the clerk scan it: the WM's I checked had the legitimate $5 per box price.

The two Marysville stores (Tulalip and on 64th and Hwy 9) are out [rolleyes], but others may have some left. Now I've got to buy an AR to shoot it in!

I get my .223 ammo from Palmetto State Armory. They have great bulk deals, I picked up 1,000 Rounds for 199 dollars shipped. I think that comes out to 4 bucks a box, just about the same price. They also have good AR kits.

Thanks for the info Branweeds. I'll check it out. I'm currently going back and forth between building my first AR, or buying a complete rifle. For an entry level I'm considering the S&W and the Ruger. Both can be had for around the $500 mark and have reasonable reviews for an entry level gun.

I bought the Ruger American Predator in .308 a while back and I am pretty happy with it. I have yet to take it out on a hunting trip, as I am mostly a weekend gravel pit trip kind of guy. I did get my first AR kit from Palmetto too, and it was a breeze to put together. If you are looking for a fun gun in a bigger caliber, I would suggest building an AR-10. The .308 can be a good hunting round and its not going to empty your pockets from the cost of ammo. Plus you get just about everything I have in my Ruger American Predator, except instead of holding three rounds you can hold up to 50 rounds in a drum.. and it is semi-auto.
