Been to the Westport Jetty this summer?

Post by The Quadfather » Fri Jul 31, 2015 7:54 pm

I feel like there hasn't been near the usual amount of chatter about the Westport Jetty this summer.
I am going next weekend.
Curious if anyone has been this year, but maybe just didn't report?
Staying in Grayland for surf perch fishing, and all day Sat. at the Jetty. New TFO surf rod comes this week.

I went for the 1st time 2 years ago. I have to admit at the time, that I thought it kicked my --- , and wasn't sure I'd do it again, :-" ( climbing all that concrete) Ha ha... But now I'm jumping at the chance.

It's certainly worth the hike out and giving it a go. I think it was June I went on the jetty for the first time... caught a couple kelp greenling but couldn't convert that to ling cod. Wind was blowing, greenlings got hung up in the rocks super quick....

Enjoy though! That was quite the hike, jumpity jump.

Yea, that sucked. That was the WORST trip I'd ever had on the jetty, and haven't been back since. Mark and I got skunked. I dunno if it's a trend, or has something to do with warm water or what... if you go and catch fish let us know!

There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot.

The jetty has been weird this year. All ling cod I hooked this year were undersized. Black sea bass and cabezon were plentiful, but I go for the lings. I am not a fan of greenling and in past years they would be about as pesky as puget sound dogfish, this year I only hooked a couple. Not sure if the jetty is getting over fished or if its the heat wave. Its my absolute favorite fishery, but this year was a bummer.

Man... I have returned from my Jetty trip.
This place officially kicked my ***.
Left a report in the reports section.

Lets just say, that I'm not 25 anymore, and my balance is terrible!
