Shi Shi Beach Fishing

Post by Prest0nC » Sat Jul 02, 2016 8:55 pm

So next weekend I plan on backpacking to one of my favorite camping destinations, Shi Shi Beach. I've scoured the depths of the internet and this site and can't seem to find any information regarding the fishing there. Does anyone have any experience fishing Shi Shi beach? I'm thinking about surf fishing and trying to get some black bass around the tide pools during high tide. Any thoughts and comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Can't speak to catching sea bass from the beach. I really think you need to be deeper. I catch them jigging via a boat.

But... You should catch surf perch all day.
Check this guy out. He is fishing a little South of Shi Shi, and he goes over his gear setup well. This is exactly how I do it as well.

Let us know how it goes for you.

All the googling you do, and talk about razor clam meat is great, etc. but in the end, the Berkely salt water worms etc. these products stay on your hook much better amd work great. Make sure though to use a pretty small hook.

Be safe out there. The currents are very dangerous. The temptstion (and I do it). Is to run deep into tje reseeding wave, on your cast.. Then run back towards shore with spool open, etc. just be aware of things.
Look for areas of the beach where there are troughs.
You tube search 'Reading salt water beaches'

Look at this video around the 7:00 mark. He kinda goes on amd on, but 7:00 is troughs/holes etc.
