ya know whats funny ... as much as a high road i do take, this year my wife and i bought 10 new pairs of shoes/sneakers for 10 foster kids and today she just cook a spiral glazed ham for the local church which we do not go to...ha talk about christmas spirit.
Hats off to you Racfish for going above and beyond.

There have always been poor people and those who are in need of help. It has been that way since the dawn of time and will continue. Unfortunately, there are also people mixed in with them that work the system.
This time of the year should be a time of reflection. Each year at this time I take a little time and watch one of the holiday movies like "A Christmas Carol" or "It's A Wonderful Life". It is kind of a "reset" for my mind. I look back on what I have accomplished, how fortunate I am to have my family and how I have treated people. It also makes me think of those who are less fortunate.
Racfish, your actions are admirable.

Anyone see the article in today's Yakima Herald Republic regarding the panhandler found dead from a heroin overdose in the Taco Bell parking lot? Seems he had $1,725 cash on him as well as $83,000 worth of heroin.

There are always some that just dont want to work or want to live out a normal life. There are homeless that make a living out of being homeless. What good is money if there is no happiness. The kid I saw might be a heroin addict,maybe hes a molester he could be anything. I gave to a kid who looked innoscent enough. If he takes my money to buy drugs then there isnt much I can do. I did it because I felt he needed it. Id do it again. And again. I felt good for what I did. What he does with it is his business.There are always scum that ruin it for everyone else. We get that in the non homeless folks too.

Ive given to homeless especially on a day i make a few 1000 just cant help not sharing.. Last time dude pissed me off. I gave him 20 bucks, then he asked me for a smoke. I dont even smoke, what i wanted was a thank you.

It amazes me that even here, people knock the little that is given to the poor (yes, for many, it is their choice, but for some it isn't and might be their only light at the end of the tunnel). Is this really where we are wasting the big bucks? What are the odds on seeing a thread here about the waste of tax subsidies still given to the country's most profitable companies in world history? I know, I know, they are The Job Creators ... but 'most profitable in world history' AND worthy of tax money? No ... better to knock programs that might actually help some people.

Not only did I get my thank you but I got a lil history of this kid I met. At around 20 yo depending how long hes been homeless,he might not had parents who guided him or even tried. My heart goes out to anyone whose struggling to live. Its just my way. Its what I was taught to do. If my few bucks helps this kid out and he even has 1 better day then its worth it.

Everyone for the most part lives in a financial equilibrium. There are events which happen which causes the equilibrium sways from one side to another. Like others have said some folks you cannot help because they are within their financial equilibrium and are happy with it or not willing to do anything about it. Then you have the folks who have won the lottery who lose it all within a few years or individuals who cannot support a budget to live by.

Another hypothesis is that kids are self-directed for their financial equilibrium or in support of the human plight. Targeting careers such as Nurse, Doctor, Dentist, Scientist, Engineer, Pastor, or other humanitarian work or just want to live in at an above average financial living. So they study more than others in school. Some are naturally gifted in learning and if used to increase the financial levels they live above the norm. Last, you have the individuals who are hardworking, think out of the box, and take risk to increase their financial situation.

After helping many folks with chores etc, and working within our Church the above seems to hold water from my view and experiences.

As I read your statement, it feels as though it is not based on personal, pointed opinion and experience (as indicated). But rather a step outside that realm, and into a reasonable, educated, hypothesis of rational possibilities.

Most times, opinions are based on personal experiences, or what we are told or think we heard (but not verified), or what seems likely, or reasonable.

But rarely looked at scientifically, like in this case. The possibility of human action, influenced by behavior, caused by individual genetic makeup. That, and a bit of good luck or extremely bad luck, sprinkled in.
