Comeon Sapiplate. Crackdown on these poor young missguided youth today. Thats a joke.I say shoot some of these punks and let their friends watch them suffer and die. Then maybe just maybe they will see it aint fun to get shot. Dont forget we live in a very liberal state .Youth are not punished in this state by our liberal judges. You can sell pot and get 20 years, but if you murder a fellow human you might get 5 years.Untill these punk gangs feel the same bullets their shooting nothing will change.Bottom line is shoot these punks DEAD..............

Time for someone to test the law, get arrested, and sue the city for a nice chunk of change. That seems to be the only way politicians get it, is when they loss even MORE of our money. I'm so glad I don't live in Seattle, King county is bad enough.
BTW guys, I know this is the Off Topic zone, but can we tone down the semi-obscured swear words a notch? I'm sure there's a lot of creative, non-swear word language you can use to voice your irritations (Mayor McCheese, LOL)

Good topic ! I agree that banning firearms from parks and putting other firearm restrictions on the general public only hurts and affects the law abiding citizens and obviously removes or hinders their ability to protect themselves under certain circumstances (like being in Seattle parks) which is why I disagree with this new Seattle municipal code.
I am not sure why law makers and other government officials like mayors and city council members think these kinds of restrictions protect the public. I honestly believe it may just be as simple as they are clueless when it comes to evaluating something that is so obvious to the majority.
After reading everyone's replies I thought I'd try to provide a little more information. A concealed weapon violation is a misdemeanor which means the unlicensed carrier can be arrested, his or her firearm would then be taken and booked into evidence, and ultimately the violator could receive jail time and a nice fine not to mention a criminal record and attorney fees due to the need for criminal representation unless a public defender is hired. So getting a CWP or renewing an expired one is a great idea and a simple solution to the risk of carrying concealed without a permit.
For those who may not be sure of this, it is lawful to carry a weapon in plain view as long as the carrier does not act in a manner that places others in fear of their safety. In other words, you can legally carry your hand gun in plain view but keep your hands off of it. Those who choose to carry in plain view do have the potential to receive police attention, only because in most areas of WA (for example Seattle or Everett) it is not common place to see someone carry a gun in plain view which often spurs a reaction from the public to call 911. The police have no choice but to respond to these calls and in my experience no action is taken unless it is determined that the carrier was conducting him or herself in a threatening manner for example putting a hand on the pistol while glaring at someone in an effort to intimidate them, that kind of stuff. It is my guess that in States like Montana for example, carrying a firearm in plain view is common place and would likely not generate a call to 911.
City municipal codes and county codes can actually be written in a manner that is more strict than the RCW, so the RCW isn't necessarily the dominant law in WA. In fact RCW's are adopted by reference by cities and counties which is why you see municipal and county codes in place. Individual city and county codes that are made more strict than the RCW are voted on by city or county council depending on jurisdiction, then set in place.
Hope this helps. I am all for legally carrying a concealed weapon and am disappointed with this latest decision to restrict it in Seattle parks. I almost forgot; I found it interesting that the news reported that those CWP holders caught carrying a firearm in a Seattle park would be cited for criminal trespass. It is my guess that they have added this new restriction to the criminal trespass law in the Seattle Municipal Code. Obviously those caught without a CWP could also be charged with carrying a concealed weapon without a permit. Interesting topic for sure. Be safe all... Or at least try our best.

It maybe lawful but I can tell you without fail you will have a lot "attention" bestowed up on you. I worked by myself in the middle of the night for years and I always carried. I can tell you without doubt there will be one officer that will try to haul you in for brandishing a weapon. Fortunately when you get four or more police officers together, more than likely there will be one cool head among them and you won't have to go for a ride. They never seem to confront you with one, two or even three officers. Invariably the first question after the obligatory ID request is why are you carrying a gun? Derrrrrrrrrr, (do they realize just how stupid asking obvious questions makes them look?, here's your sign.) I always had to bite my tongue the usual answer was, "the same reason you do.". Some would realize how stupid the question was and others would take offence. On about fifty percent of the interviews I would say, "Officer ___ I'm awful busy working like you, have I broken any laws?". Unless I was engaged with a prickly so and so the answer would be, "have a nice night." If I was being entertained by Mr. Prickly, he would start going through the litany of things he could do at which point I would ask if he minded if I called my attorney so he could meet us at the station. At that point we would say our fair wells.
Get a CWP and keep it covered up. Don't pull it unless you intend to use it. We aint in the Wild West anymore.

bodo i have that bumper sticker on my truck, i get thumbs up from people all of the time most of them are cops. this law is stupid nobody its aimed at will follow it. people are gonna do what they want.no stupid sign that we the tax payers paid for is going to stop them.i dont understand why this city doesnt have a park police detachment. presence is a huge deterant compared to a bunch of signs. I rather pay taxes for more police than stupid signs .it will just give the gangs something else to spray paint.Bodofish wrote:"For those who may not be sure of this, it is lawful to carry a weapon in plain view as long as the carrier does not act in a manner that places others in fear of their safety. I live in tacoma where theres a similar ban. I have a CPL and carry frequently while walking in the park near my house in the evening. I have seen gang activity and graffiti in this park. I just keep it covered and concealed and haven't had a problem in the past year when it was enacted. Just don't show it that's all there is to it.

When I said I pack in Seward Park everynite,I wasnt saying that I carry for the punks. I carry ccuz the Coyotes and feral dogs living in the park. There was a siren the other night at the park near dark .While I was walking I heard multiple howls from the wild dogs.I'm more affraid of the four legged creatures more then the two legged ones. The two legged variety are much stupider then the four legged ones. Two legged ones dont walk where I do .There are no cars allowed .Without a car the two legged variety wont go there. They are to chicken for that.

Seems to me as long as you are abiding by the law outside the park, and abiding by the law inside the park (minus your concealed weapon), why would a police officer even have pause to talk to you?
This is obviously a politician that knows he has no election-day accountability so he is trying to flex a little muscle. Like most other laws, the more local you become, the more ability to override the larger institution you have, so it is legal for them to create the law and enforce it, but I wouldn't hold my breath that any LEO in the park would hold it against you. I work pretty closely with these guys, and have many friends that are Spo-Po. In the event you were carrying a weapon, it was licensed for concealment, and you weren't instigating anything, they wouldn't think to cite you.
Keep in mind most Po-Po are pretty hardcore 2nd amendment believers, so it would be horribly rare that it will even affect a legal carrier.
