You have a point here. The law will keep him from profiting from his crimes, but his mom has already hired lawyers to pave the way for her to make money on it. He will NOT escape from prison here in Washington, but he will likely get out early on supervision and then abscond leaving some poor probation officer with 9 million felons on his case load as the scape goat. If he escapes from prison then that takes his fiendish genius to a whole new level and the probably will end up getting killed in a shoot out.racfish wrote:He'll probably escape again. Its like this whole thing has been set up by his family. They will cash in big time on this young idiots crime rampage. After serving 1-3 years max,he'll come out very wealthy. It just shows how greedy our society is becomming.

RE:Colton Harris Moore.......... captured
Unfortunately his opportunity for escape was facilitated by a minimum security juvenile program. This time around he will be held in adult jails and eventually prison where the opportunity for escape is miniscule which leads me to believe it’s unlikely he will escape again.
I can’t help but feel like the only one at fault here is Mr. Harris himself. I’ve read all about his troubled childhood and obvious lack of adult supervision and many seem to hold his childhood responsible for his criminal actions as a juvenile and more recently as an adult. I think Mr. Harris’s decision to commit crimes is a direct reflection of his own character and his personality and although I am sure his childhood plays a role, ultimately the decisions he made to commit felony after felony with disregard to how his actions would affect others were all his own.
Obviously he has drive and the ability to take initiative. It’s unfortunate that he didn’t utilize those qualities to stay in school, accelerate in sports or whatever interested him, and maybe hold a job, at least part time during the summer. I also acknowledge that this is difficult to do without any support from family and friends. Instead he chose to utilize his drive and take the initiative to commit crimes.
Millions of Americans come from poor and troubled childhoods yet many make the decision to be a contributing member of society and aspire to become successful instead of committing crimes. In Mr. Harris’ case, he made the conscious decision to take from others and damage their property in the process for his own personal gain and for that I have not a drop of respect or sympathy for him.
I also think it’s pathetic that thousands have chosen to cheer him on and many hoped he would continue to evade capture. I just don’t get that. What does that say about the supporters themselves? In my mind I can’t help but think that supporters of Mr. Harris likely don’t care much about others themselves which unfortunately is typical in today’s society. We often see this lack of respect for others displayed on our roadways, waterways and at our boat launches to name a few. I would be shocked to hear that any of Mr. Harris’ supporters were victims of his crimes nor have they been the victim of a burglary or high dollar theft. I hope Mr. Harris receives a lengthy sentence in each of the States he committed a crime as well as in the Bahamas which I am guessing will add up to many many years in prison.

He'll probably piss off someone in prison. Then he'll be killed in prison. He'll get what he deserves. No great loss.

I've always believed that some people should absolutely not procreate. Here is an example of a mother who should not have been one.

It will be interesting to see what the Bahamian athorities do with him. He'll get time there then come back to face charges here... in MULTIPLE states.

I actually think he will do quite well in prison and take advantage of every loophole in the law to make his life there as comfortable as possible on our dime. I worked in the prison system for years and guys like this find ways to turn their minds to operating just inside the rules while pushing them. If he is killed then his mother will sue the state of Washington and waste more of our tax dollars.Amx wrote:He'll probably piss off someone in prison. Then he'll be killed in prison. They made the movie already. Catch Me If You Can with Leonardo Dicaprio, and it was far more intriguing than this kids story. Sure he'll make money from a book or maybe a movie. But we probably won't hear from him for some time. Hope he gets the maximum for all of it. If of coarse he doesn't plead insanity in which case they'll put him on meds, evaluate him, then let him go. Only time will tell.

I think Dave summed it up quite nicely. A lot of people were adversely affected by this guy. My understanding is he can't profit from his crimes (Washington law) but his mom, that may be another matter.
RE:Colton Harris Moore.......... captured
Unfortunately, the Supreme Court has weakened the law quite a bit and I'm not sure Washington's version of the "Son of Sam" law would be upheld in appeal. If you remember, Mary Kay Letourneau, made some money off of her conviction of child rape. I love America, it's just that some its citizens make me sick!

Actually people who plead insanity don't get put on meds and let go. They get evaluated by a forensic psychologist or psychiatrist and either stand trial or are placed in a high security wing of a mental hospital and pretty much stay there forever.fishnislife wrote:Iamfishing wrote:i was hoping that he would not get caught, but at the same time its a good thing he was.i hope they make a movie about this kid for real

I have mixed feelings about the Bahaman officials charging him with the equivalent of what appears to be a forfeitable misdemeanor with a 300.00 fine, and letting the other more serious crimes he committed such as unlawfully possessing a firearm and felony theft go so the FBI could extradite him quickly. Although it's a kind gesture, I think had he been prosecuted in the Bahamas, he might have received more prison time there than he will here which is sad and kind of embarrassing. I say this because now the media is predicting or reporting that he may receive between 4 and 12 years which is in my opinion a joke. As much as I support the judicial system, I also acknowledge that in most cases we see, it's far too lenient. We see this leniency for example with those who commit first degree manslaughter which as most know is when someone recklessly kills another, and they get just a few years in prison. Can you imagine losing a loved one, killed by some worthless loser and the court gives him or her a couple years in prison? I can't! My hope that in the U.S. he would be prosecute for each crime he committed in each State is slowly fading which is very disappointing. Time will tell!

I agree Dave I thought he would get more time there also. Now I`m thinking he won`t do hardly any time. I`ve watched my brother in law a complete loser battle with the courts over four dwi~s drugs driving on suspended license and numerous other violations and serv a max of six months. He his a hazard to public. I even went to court a couple weeks ago and told the judge but that didn`t matter. Chance after chance when is enough enough when he kills a family of innocent people. Colton harris will get a max of a year if that and with good time be out in six months. I have no faith in the system anymore at all. People that owe child support stay in jails longer than actual harden criminals. This is what yours and my tax dollars pay for. It`s a joke. Sorry for the rant.

Personally I think your brother in law is a bigger criminal than this guy. I don't think the Barefoot re-re put other's lives in danger as much as someone committing a DUI offense does.

RE:Colton Harris Moore.......... captured
Bionic I 100% agree with you. But it`s sad that this guy will do more time then my brother in law. i`ll never understand the judicial system nor do I think I want to.
RE:Colton Harris Moore.......... captured
I completely agree that drunk drivers place everyone's safety in jeopardy and suspended drivers who are unable to have insurance screw us when they crash in to us, but I also think Harris placed the safety of others in jeopardy when he flew those airplanes. I'm thankful he didn't crash land on a busy road or a residential development or hit a large aircraft full of passengers. He was also a danger to law enforcement, especially after breaking in to a Deputies’ patrol car and arming himself with a rifle and I believe a pistol.
Bottom line about the justice system is it is super lenient which I believe may be due to lack of room in our jails and the cost to prosecute and house these prisoners. It's amazing that billions are spent on sports stadiums and other entertainment venues but not on building prisons and the staff to run them so we can actually remove criminals from society which would increase public safety like never before. I think if crooks knew they could get real prison time for committing a crime, they might think twice about taking a chance. Again, this is all just one opinion.
I recall a time early in my career where I arrested the same drunk driver twice in one night. I cited and released him to a sober adult the first time and later that same night I caught him driving again and after processing him I booked him in to jail. They just don't care because the consequences are so minimal. He eventually got 5 years in prison (not sure what all he was sentenced for) and a few years after he got out I saw him at the Evergreen State Fair. He introduced me to his new wife and child and told me that my arresting him changed his life and he thanked me as we shook hands. I was blown away and will never forget that.

Actually the U.S. has the highest per capita prison rate of any country in the world.
