But why? All I can find in the regs is the following for Steelhead:

Min. size 20". Daily limit 2. No more than 2 STEELHEAD may be retained as part of TROUT combined
daily limit. STEELHEAD may be caught and released until the daily limit is retained.

Hatchery fish are likely to breed with Natives if they are not kept. Without going into depth (because it's been done in many threads on this forum), that's bad for the Native fish survival rate. Actual scientific studies have been done to prove it. We may not all agree on how the state/fed decide to manage the problem, but the reality is that it is bad for the native fish. Keep them please!

If your leader line is lighter than your main line, your main should never break (barring tree trimming incidents!) I usually go with 40 braid main and 20 Pline leader, and only ever lose my jig. The swivel and above general doesn't get lost.

This thread is on fire. Best thread so far this year. A lot of chit chat, but within the chat is some of the best information I have seen anywhere. Thanks guys for the quality info and positive feedback. I think anyone who reads through all this will no doubt feel they can go out and hammer some fish. All this talk has got me itching. Can't wait to get out there.

I like braid for both floating and drifting, but occasionally pay the price with bird's nests on the baitcaster. I'll pass along that if you do want to use mono for float fishing, you can get it to float better by waxing it (rub the line across a candle) for the first 20' or so.

I started using braid last year and haven't looked back. I can fit more line on my reel with it. It holds up really well.....something I will sugest to all of you that use braid. If you aren't changing your braid out every year, at least unspool it and respool it swaping the ends out. this will put any weak spots you can't see in your line at the bottom of your reel.

I don't do much float fishing but plan on it a lot more this year.

I have never had a problem with my line spinning on the spool but that is a darn good idea.

That's what I've heard about that line as well. I will add my experiment using Tuf-line ended up going in the garbage. That stuff is cheap and frays real easy. PowerPro all the way.
