float tube wanted.

Post by The Quadfather » Fri Aug 06, 2010 5:39 pm

A friend is looking for a float tube. We scour CL all the time, but not seeing what he wants. Looking for one that is not a belly boat, i.e. do not want to sit in sling in the water, but want to be above the water in the type with a seat. Let me know if you got something.

If your friend wants one like you described, it's probably going to be a new one unless that person is handy with a sewing machine and doesn't mind moving the seat up.

I have the Fish Cat 4 deluxe and its awesome. Your butt gets occasionally wet if your kicking hard but normal operations water is just below knees. And your discription of a seat... He may need a pontoon boat. I have a buddy that has a 4' pontoon that is sweet and we both have full size ones and love them.

Thanks for the replies guys,, but to give you an idea of what I mean with the seat, etc. I am not talking about a hard backed seat like in a pontoon boat. Here is a link to the tube that i have. It just has a foam cushion seat that has it's own back.

That's a beauty all right. Not to deter you in any way but the price tag on those high end tubes is right there with a pontoon boat. I would think that a guy buying one of those would be pretty sure about what he wants and not too likely to be selling. They just haven't been out that long. I sat pretty low in my FT till I put a kneeling pad (for gardening) in the seat. It's raised me up enough to see all around. The next step will be to cut the seat and move it up on the tube. Most of the low end FT's have a kind of high back (the third or fourth airchamber) so I wouldn't be too concerned about back support. Raising the seat is kind of a double edged sword, sitting low keeps you close to the water and stable. If your pal really wants to sit above the water, Costco has Toons for about $260, new. That's less than most of those fancy tubes.

Check out the Daytripper by waterskeeter. That sounds like the style that he is looking for.

My buddy bought one at Ace for $150 a couple of years ago

I have a full setup for sale! ODC 420 float tube,Sage FLi-697 4pc fly rod, 2 reels (okuma/scientific angler), Proline waders (I'm 5'10"), assorted flys, life vest, pump, net, still have the decal for your car/truck. Only used three times. I just didn't get into fly fishing like my buddies at work.

Sellis_414, FYI, I bought the tube and assorted fins, etc. last night. The seller still had the Sage rod 4 piece, 6wt. carrying case, some nice flies, and a few extras. I just wanted to add that the gear was all very nice stuff in great shape, and the seller was a VERY good person in terms of dealing. I only wish that I needed a new fly rod.

Thanks Ron for the stuff.:salut:
