Hey, just sayin' hi. Not new to fishing but I'm new to fishing here in the Great North West. I grew up on the Chesapeake Bay which at one time was a great fishing hole.
I have lived out here for 20 years now and I've yet to wet a line. Disgusting I know, but when you drive long haul and are gone 300 days a year like I was, there wasn't much time left to do anything but say hi to the wife. Now I'm retired and have invested in some gear, both fishing and camping including a used 16' Mad River Canoe. I have so many questions I don't know where to begin. So, I'm just a rank rookie and will probably ask way too many questions.
At this time I'm interested in tips for Offut Lake and Lake Sylvia. Rigs, lures, types of fish.

My name is Brian, 24 years old, just getting in to fishing. Love the outdoors, but usually stick to shooting and camping out with my buddies. I don't have a boat so I'm limited to fishing from the shore or a pier. I'd love to catch a Salmon in the Sound, but doesn't seem too promising without a boat. I plan on fishing Lake Washington and some of the local rivers for trout to start off and then see where it takes me.

I'd love any tips or good places to go for a beginner. Or if you want to take me out on your boat I could swing that too.

Caught many small trout at the Green, though nothing big enough to keep yet. The Puyallup seems like a totally different type of river. The current is much stronger and I cannot distinguish what a bite feels like there. I really enjoy fishing and am open to listen and learn from anyone willing to give advice. Two other fishermen referred me to this website, One of them goes by the handle Atrocious. It is nice to find this forum and I hope to learn much from the seasoned fishing veterans here.

Welcome aboard! I fished with Atrocious last year when the pinks were in, how is he doing?

Yeah it really is a different game drifting corky/yarn. It took me a long time to understand what a "bite" feels like. All I can recommend is to try different techniques when you are fishing out there, don't just get stuck drifting. You CAN get fish to bite and when they do, set the fricken hook!

Hello my name is Cory. I'm 23 yrs old and originally from Missouri, were my dad and grandpa got me started fishing when I was 2 yrs old. I'm currently living in Port Orchard but travel the state on the weekends with the boat fishing. I grew up mainly power fishing for large mouth but am still trying to adapt to fishing out here.

I also hunt just about anything so if anyone has any hunting advice also I'd greatly appreciate it.

I'm not a total novice but I have very rusty skills.
I'm looking forward to putting the 12' boat in fresh water and turning on the electric motor to see what I can hook up.
I have been out on the south sound to do some crabbing recently. Both trips came home with Rock Crab. They made great crab cakes!
This site is a goldmine of information that I have been gleaning for several days. Thank you for such an informative site!

Welcome to Washington Lakes. What general area of Pierce Co.? N., S., E., W. of the county? There are at least a few members here that live down there. And plenty of small lakes that have lots of fish in them.

I'm just south of Tacoma.
I've been looking at American Lake but a $10.00 launch fee is pretty high for me.
Also looking at Clear Lake but a 56 mile round trip (gas expense) would be almost as expensive as the launch fee. LOL
I'm sure that fishing from the bank/dock at American Lake would be trying at best this time of year.

Been awhile but I use to fish Tanwax and Ohop. Kapowsin was my favorite down there. All for bass, I only fish for bass. But those other fishies are in those lakes.

I would love to try Kapowsin! Variety of fish and only 25 miles from home. My concern is that it does not allow motorized boats. Does an electric motor count against motorized? Or does WDFW mean combustion motors?

You can use electric and gas motors there. According to the Fish and Game regulations = no restrictions.

The WDFW does not show a boat launch even though I know there is one there. I figured this lake was floatable with oars only.

WDFW put in that brand new launch and parking lot the other year. Lots of people have been using motorized boats since then, and for many years. If some idiot changed that I haven't heard.

Maybe I need to contact WDFW to make sure.
I would hate to cause other boaters a problem, but I can't afford a ticket.
My luck would have me on the water and WDFW waiting at the boat launch when I came in. LOL

I just looked up another lake with WDFW access/launch. That page also says no for motorized boats, but there are always water skiers on that lake, so someone screw the pooch on those listings. Maybe call the WDFW office tomorrow.
