How the Pacific NW Fish ID Corner Works...

By popular request we are adding a whole forum devoted to IDing fish species. We'll set it up like this:

Each time someone posts a new species with pictures and some ID text, I'll make it a sticky and title it appropriately. Eventually we'l have dozens of stickys that you can search thru to find ID info on the various species. If you have a good picture to add to the ID sticky go ahead and add it, but DON'T use the sticky posts for random chit-chat. Start a new thread. Let's keep the stickys limited to general descriptions and pictures. And if there are enough clear pictures, don't add more - we don't need 20 images of a largemouth bass! I will lock a fish ID thread once we have enough clear pics and determine more pics would not be helpful. If we follow these simple guidelines I think we'll develope quite a nice resource.

If you have an unknown species make a post and we can collectively try to ID the fish.

This should be fun and informative! Please, one other rule, no teasing/bad-mouthing if you think it's an obvious ID and wonder why the poster didn't know the answer.

NOTE: In order to have a level of consistancy I will go in and add the wikipedia information, if available, since this is a free resource. So if you see your post edited that's just me trying to keep things organized. :dj:

Also, we have been working on a permanent Fish ID section which will be part of the website proper, not the forum. Any information we get posted we may use on the permanent section, FYI.

Acually the source for the info I posted was from the regs for freshwater of the WDFW web site, page 29. :-) But wiki works too.

I noticed no sticky thread for bluegill or black crappie. What should we do to get sticky's of these?

To get a sticky you just make a new thread, include info and photos of the fish, and then Mike will go through and edit it and make it a sticky.

I’m so sorry guys. It’s my fault. I found the Golden trout thread loaded by a spammer with porn links and porn pictures early this morning and in the process of cleaning up the thread I accidently deleted the whole thread. I banned the user and moved the thread to the mod forum so that I could clean it up. When I went back in to check and make sure that it had moved I found that it had moved and left a copy posted in the original thread. I deleted the copy and in the process I deleted the whole Golden Trout thread.
I’m sorry and I’ll pay closer attention next time.
