Pinks still in the Duwamish?

Post by thebigjigga » Mon Sep 10, 2007 1:06 am

Just checking to see if the pinks are still there between Spokane St and 1st ave bridge. Didn't have a chance to get out there this weekend, I just got back from fishing in Montana. Ready for some salmon fishing now. :) I haven't seen any too recent reports and hope they are still there.

Got stocked up with some pink hoochies and buzz bombs. Ready for some action!

Yeah, they are there but I sure can't figure out the trick to catching them (read my river posts for the Duwamish). I haven't tried the Spokane St Bridge - too many people for me. But had been hitting Diagonal Park and T107 parks and have yet to get anything out of em. :-({|= I am guessing it is just my inexperience, but I can't say I have seen anybody else catch anything either so who knows..
I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant, and not nearly so much fun. ~ John Volker

the bite has dropped off drastically i think in the past 5 days or so.. but they are there, still in big numbers, i was out saturday all day and saw them everywhere from 112th st to spokane st and inbetween, i hit the shorelines all over the place that day.. i only caught them at spokane st though between 7am and 9am, then nothing after that.

There are still there but are definitely thinning out. They are in every stretch of river I have been to as well. They are at spokane street all the way down on the other side of the I-5 bridge. This part dosnt open til the 16th, but the pinks are already there. I have also heard of them all the way up in Auburn but I havnt been there to check it out. But I have noticed a lot of kings and silvers. The last time I was at spokane street I saw 3 caught. But You cant keep the kings from spokane to 1st ave, then the next stretch you can keep them, then you cant keep them on the rest of the river.

You guys needa change something up if your not getting pinks. Don't get stuck in a rut. Also, no need to throw buzz bombs or HUGE spoons. 1/4 oz pink OR GREEN jigs will slay em. Small 50/50 dick nites or pink dick nites will do it. Early is better. Bite drops off at about 8:30am every day I've been out in the morning. I've also recently been outfished by an older asian man (as well as all his friends) who've using a black 3/8 (maybe 1/4oz) oz. jighead with a mini green spatterback hootchie on it. Not like they have been beating me 3-1, but for every 3 I get, he gets 4-5 fish. Same retrieve speed same everything. Change stuff up and those pinks will react differently, cause they've seen a lot of pink gear in the salt and rivers so far.

Just got back from Joes with a few black jigheads and mini green hootchies, and I'm threading the hootchies on right now.

Sam is right on! Pink dick nites do the job. Especially when the Green/ Duwamish are low because of the tide. You will most likely lose Bid spoons and your Buzz Bombs in all the logs in the river.

I see guys hucking huge 1/2 oz. "humpy special" spoons and buzz bombs and pixee spoons and they proceed to burn them back as if topwater fishing for bass...

Then they slow em down and they just lose all their gear cause they are giant weighted hooks. Only seen ONE fish caught on the humpy special spoon for the 6 days I've been to the river these past few weeks.

Breakdown of percentages of whats been catching the most fish: 25 % dick nites, 50% jigs, 20 % kastmaster/similar silver spoons, 5% anything else (bait, humpy special spoons, buzz bombs)

I was out last night after work and the pinks are still thick at the Spokane street bridge. I still see plenty of limits being taken. I caught three in an hour or so and did what I could not to snag the other five I brought in.

Sam is right, switch it up! They don't just bite on pink stuff. Silvers and greens have also worked well for me. The kings are out there to and are giant.

See you out there!

It was up on the Sno. but a pink is a pink. I lost count on the number I caught and released. Pink jighead with a pink squid body glued to the base of the head. They couldn't resist it. Out fished every other setup 10 to 1 at least. There ya have it boys. In two years don't forget.

Went out on Monday night towards Boeing field but didn't catch anything. Everyone was using pink stuff and I didn't see one fish caught.

Will head out to Spokane st bridge tonight. Have never been down there, hope it isn't too bad... I'm not use to fishing with so many people around me. I'm from Montana... where you have miles of fishing to yourself.

sounds like heavin to me.
there's nothing better than standing on the side of a lake or river knowing that only a handful of people have stood in that exact spot and witness the beauty of mother nature first hand.
