Upgrading boat
Upgrading boat
In the market for an upgrade. Been looking for a few years for a larger/more dependable motor for my 15ft gregor. Found one yesterday, told my fiancee and she says "why don't you just buy a better boat". I guess I've been complaining long enough. Anyways, I'll try my best to explain what I want although I'm limiting myself on price.
-Aluminum
-At least 17ft
-Open bow
-4 stroke main(75hp or better)
-Side console
I have a kicker to mount, can run my own ff and bow mount. Want a top but can have one made later if need be. I guess I'm looking for a jet boat with an outboard if that makes sense. Time is on my side with this one, but hopefully before spring. Max price will be $10k. Does anyone have anything to add on maybe where I can look besides craigslist? Do you think I'll find something like that in my range? Brands I should watch out for? Motors I should stay away from? Any other suggestions are appreciated. Here's a link to something outside my range but shows kind of what I'm looking for.

RE:Upgrading boat
IN 2007 i paid 25k for mine then owners orginally wanter 32k if that boat was in a trade deal then all bets are off in what you can suggest. NADA values are moot as it is always what you are willling to pay. IMO
MY route would be this way...

RE:Upgrading boat
I just planned on selling mine this spring, won't get much for trade in.
RE:Upgrading boat
Wish I had the go ahead when the boat show was in town. Might have at least seen what I was up against.
RE:Upgrading boat
Anyone have any experience or thought on tracker targas? Seem more in my price range.
RE:Upgrading boat
When I was camping in Oregon our "neighbor" had one and his buddy had the new Pro team 175, that was goin on its first outing they let me on them and look around, the Targa was really simple and open, not alot to it, but I liked it, I just stood in it on the trailer though...
RE:Upgrading boat
Don't count out modern 2 stroke motors as a main power plant for your boat.. They are as clean as 4 strokes and usually have a better power to weight ratio. There is no premixing required and because of this you can tap the main fuel line straight to your little 4 stroke kicker. I'm not saying go out and get one, just that if you see a boat you like and it comes with a newer 2 stroke, don't automatically cross it off the list.

Check this one out, it is a two stroke but I know that it is a great boat cuz it used to be mine and Dan will take good care of you.

RE:Upgrading boat
This is good advice, I have 2 stroke power on our new boat and it is 2 star CARB certified motor. I have heard the new models are 3 star CARB, but haven't checked it out personally. There is no mixing, and the engine is fuel injected just like your car. Mine starts within 2 revolutions of the crank, that's pretty impressive, and so is the holeshot! Cruises at 30mph with a 5gph burn rate too.G-Man wrote:Don't count out modern 2 stroke motors as a main power plant for your boat.. RE:Upgrading boat
Probably should have have included oil injected motors. I guess I thought for my budget I could get a 4 stroke main and kicker but have found that's not really the case. I know of 4 targas for sale, all around the same price so kind of wanted to get some feedback.
RE:Upgrading boat
I have him keeping an eye out for me. Your old boat is a little smaller than I'm looking for. Thanks for the input.lonnie197272 wrote:Check this one out, it is a two stroke but I know that it is a great boat cuz it used to be mine and Dan will take good care of you.

RE:Upgrading boat
I personally would stay away from tracker, every one i have known who has had one had the keel crack wide open. no experience with targa. my recommendation would any boat you look at would to have a shop ck it out for you.
