So I've been thinking the past few days. A couple questions;

How many fish can be 'posted' each day? For the whole 2 weeks?

Say a max of 1 fish a day. Or 5 fish for the 2 weeks. That way people fishing every day can't 'post' 200 fish, and the people that can only fish on the weekend can only manage 20 fish from fishing 4 days. Can you imagine ONE person having 200 pictures in his reply? lol Multiply that by 100 participents. :-#

If a person has 'posted' his 5 fish, then he can cull as possible, taking away the shortest fish and putting in the new longer fish.

So I'm thinking a max of 5 fish per person over the 2 weeks.

Which is why I backed out. I could catch 30 bass easy a day at the pond. That's 30 pics with measurements uploading to photo shop putting links on my post.

Then it depends on how many lures are sent. 10 pack 20 pack. I could melt and repair baits day after day. I like the idea of this, just a crazy amount of work.

if everyday was a good day there would be alot more fisherman.

You've got a point! I have had lots of 30+ fish days, only one was bass though - w/spinner bait. We have been told that it would be very few baits that are provided. I'm GUESSING 3-5 baits since "VERY few" was used to describe how many baits would be provided. The number of baits provided for the tourney hasn't been disclosed yet. Correct me if I'm wrong, only 8 baits per pack in FnF packs. I figured I'd be lucky to pop 30 12"+ bass over the entire 2 weeks, maybe 3 days of fishing.... more fishing days if work is real slow like it is now. They stated that the trick will be to make the baits last as long as you can, rigging is crucial. I didn't know how these baits could be repaired, "melting" is new to me. I was going to use a different technique to try to make them last. My thought was that I'd probably hangup and break off a few baits while trying to entice these bass to bite.

How often does a bass just nip the plastic off at the halfway mark rendering the lure useless for future use?

If we do go to the best 5 bass caught during the tourney, that changes the dynamics quite a bit. Correct me if I'm wrong, LMB will be the focus because the size matters. The body of water that you fish will be WAY more important, only HAWG waters would be targeted. This also gives the guy with the big fast bass boats the upper hand (they already do). ie, how many cartoppers do you see in the Dunes of the Potholes?

I'm not opposed to the change, I'm not a basser, I don't know the consequences of such a change, just guessing. I do know that if I haul my salmon boat to the Potholes it's a $200 gas trip versus the $100 gas trip for the cartopper to Stan Coffin. For $200 of gas, I've got an open invitation to fish Lake Roosevelt with a cop buddy over there. We wouldn't be fishing for the scattered population of smallies over there, not when the walleye are on the bite! I suspect that if I can't get the bass to bite on a particular day, I'll bag it for bass and target some fish that is biting. It's a low stakes tourney, low pressure, this is the tourney that I want to be in. You do have me thinking that I better bring a backup camera though, just in case! It's all good, whatever is decided is ok with me.

If you plan to fish in the rain you could use a white or light colored clipboard and write on it with a grease pencil. As long as it be be read in the photo you'll be fine

LOL I NEVER plan to fish in the rain, just, around here, it likes to rain on the day I plan to fish! LOL Thanks!:)

Good points. I never even thought about big numbers of smaller bass. My mind was on 4-6 pounders. I like the idea of 5 fish for 2 weeks as AMX pointed out. Mark, the bass boat guys don't always have the advantage. I catch plenty of toads from my tube and many times behind guys in bass boats after they have fished an area...or jumped in front of me.

the rules are ultimately up to Fish-N-Fools Lures. As MarkFromSea mentioned, this isn't a high stakes tournament, it's meant to be for fun. Guys will get a free sample pack of lures and get to post some pictures we can all droll over.

This tournament should be approached with this mindset and then it'll be a fun online event for all.

Due to the fact that heavy salt baits tear up fairly easily and I put more salt in my baits then any other manufacture does, no one that is fallowing the rules will catch 200 fish on the baits provided. If they are submitting that many fish there would be something "Fishy" LOL going on. With some very creative rigging you might get 20 fish max per bait. I've had one fish go crazy and fling my bait off on the first fish I got with it, and when they fall in the water trust me they are gone, because they sink like rocks. The salt baits don't glue back together well either, so I know your not going to be able to keep repairing them.
We could up the min. size to 14" that will cut down on a lot of smaller fish if most of you want to do that. That way it would be less fish to have to handle for the pixs and to post. I think that most of you will be out of baits within about 3 to 4 days anyway if you fish them much. So everyone will get about the same time on the water even if you can only fish the weekends.

Still sounds good. I'm looking forwards to it. I have 1 idea on how to rig it and can't wait to try, hope it works.

I like the 14" minimum size limit idea. That will make it much more sporting for us weekend anglers.

Rules Modifications Posted -

After reading the above posts Fish-N-Fool Lures let me know to modify the rules as noted:

- New minimum size limit is 14".

- Bait must be at least 4" left. If in doubt the final determination will be made by Fish-N-Fool Lures when looking at the picture, so be sure to get that photo to include a good shot of the bait.

We appreciate your comments and reserve the right to modify the rules up until the tournament start in any way we see beneficial.

Who? Me? LOL I am gonna have fun! I'm gonna try these plastics, if the bass are biting them that day, I'll stick with them. If the bass aren't bitin the provided baits, I'll switch to something else that might catch fish and not necessarily bass. Any bass not caught on the FnF bait, won't be entered into the tourney. Real simple laid back approach, low pressure, just catch fish and have fun![thumbsup]
I've been skunked the last 5 trips out looking for a bass-turd to bite multiple things that I've thrown at them. I'm switchin back to trout for the next 3 weeks or so. LOL That weather's gotta warm up before I go fer bass again! LOL I'm just a little kid that needs to catch when I fish, I don't care if it's just sunfish! LOL[rolleyes] Have a good-un!

Mark that`s half the thrill of bass fishing. Process of elimination. What bait what depth what speed and what color the fish want. Once you figure it out game on. There are days like now that it`s hard to catch fish. I`m not putting down the trout guys at all but anyone can go out and catch a trout. All most anyone. That`s why I take the kids trout fishing. Stick with the bass you`ll start discovering new things about fishing and amaze your self.:bounce:

I did ok on the bass test but didn't have the patience to go thru the rest of the tests.... LOL :)

I'll give the bass another try during the tourney but I'm looking forward to when the bass bite is hot and they can't resist what's offered, fast fishing, results. The calendar is getting filled up though. 2 weeks on the Flambeau, WI in June, smallmouth and visit my daughters. :-$ July - some effort will swing out to Westport. :-" Aug - Puget Sound gets some effort. Sept - Duwamish, Green and Snohomish where the pinks and occasional siver climb into the cooler easily and I fire up the pressure cooker. That's the plan anyhoo. It's All Good!

I recall years ago in May dangling a whole wiggling juicy night crawler at the nose of monster bass along the shoreline in Wapato Lake, they wouldn't bite. What kind of fish doesn't eat a wiggling nightcrawler? #-o I promptly went back to CnR another 100(exagerated but not much) big trout at Wapato Lake. Speaking of Wapato, I recently heard WDFW no longer owns the ramp there. I haven't verified that yet. Another time, years ago, a Seep Lake provided a bass on what seems like nearly every cast on a yellow spinner bait. They were small but the action was fantastic! Here's one that has nothing to do with bass: years back while tuna fishing(3 day)Westport, I stayed up way into the night catching 6-10' sharks while everyone else on the charter slept! blues I think, CnR That was a Kick in the pants! Also, I love ice fishing every year. Crabbing, clamming, oysters oh my! LOL

I'm kinda thinkin, I'm not just a trout fisherman, in fact far from it, I love to catch em all! I am thinking, I want to add CnR bass fishing to my annual calendar of piscatorial pursuits(when bass are on the bite). [thumbsup] There I go over thinkin again! LOL

14" minimum, here's crossin my shad/anise scented fingers!:-k :rambo:

Food for thought. Pre fished this weekend for up coming tourney. 12 hours Saturday, no bass. 1st 3 hours Sunday, no bass. Finally figured it out and wacked em till I split. Better stick to trout Mark. Also I caught up to 5# rainbows with bass gear. :-"

The derby permit is for Washington only, but tell you what, send me a PM with your mailing address and name and I'll send you a pack of the lures. You can enter as a "not eligable" for prizes participant and post up pictures. Sound OK?
