By the end of the season my parking pass is just a white piece of paper with my license plate # written one it and my catch card is a ink smeared mess! I feel sorry for the people who have to read those things and try to decipher the data off of them.
Gringo's recomendations:
Parking Pass:
Just make the yellow hanger itself into a pass (you can still write the license number on it).
Catch cards:
Offer 3 options -
#1.) Same as we get today.
#2.) Create an APP for it - bring up the app on your I-phone or Android or whatever it is (I don't have one, but I hear all the cool kids got em). The user would just have to use their WILD-ID to get into the app and trasmit the data.
#3.) Set it up so we can just text it in. Just issue a a plastic card with the WDFW catch card number (and advise people to save the # on thier phone)and instruct them to precede the catch code with your WILD-ID.
For #2 & #3 Both systems would automatically log the date and time you sent it in (you could just show your outgoing messages to the warden if stopped).
Catch a wild king on the Puyallup? Just enter or text 804WCHIN
A hatchery Coho on the Wallace? 860HCOHO
Steelhead from the Skykomish? 844STEEL
Pink out of area 10? 10PINK

Bump, Stacie I was wondering if you had an opportunity to see this?
rseas wrote:Stacie, we fished Riffe Lake on Saturday and found that fish identification in this lake can be quite a challenge. We caught fish that I am sure were Kokanee (bright silver no spots at all), landlocked coho (silver/w spots and dark tongue), rainbows and our mystery fish for the day. The fish looked like a bright just in from the ocean steelhead but it had 14 rays in its anal fin, a dark tongue and only had spots along its back. I don’t think that it was a large landlocked coho, in part because it had spots on all over its tail. Do you have an idea what it was?
Also, the identification confusion leads me to a question. When fishing Riffe, if you catch a fish that can clearly be identified as an adult or jack salmon, or steelhead do you mark them on the appropriate catch record, or do the landlocked rules apply? Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

Skinny rainbow. There are no kokanee in Riffe just coho.
I've seen some other odd looking rainbows come out of Riffe this year. A case for the X Files!

RE:WDFW Q & A Thread - Questions for Stacie Kelsey, WDFW
Unrelated to the crappy man made plastic/paper (if it is indeed "paper"). Changed my mind. Many are organized or anal enough to place the parking thingy out of the direct sight of the sun. But then again, people like me need to see the thing hanging from the rear view mirror to know they haven't left it at home or need to go hunt it down when in a big time hurry due to a trip happening spur of the moment. I once failed to grab the faded parking pass out of my truck to place in the family car I decided to drive instead. No problem, my wife had one in the car already. I almost got a parking ticket because that pass was not linked to my WildId number!! Are you kidding me. Cannot read the faded writing indicating which wildid is linked to which of the two fishing licenses in my family and I am responsible for having that pass in the correct vehicle when that vehicle is parked in the WDFW parking lot. Ya sure, there is an area provided on the pass for two license numbers. So with two fishing licenses in the family. Both passes has each of two vehicle license numbers written in the appropriate spaces, in duplicate. But the WildId indicating which is linked to which license is undetectable and you get warned of a infraction that could have cost 124.oo bones. How did the officer determine the infraction with non legible wild id on the parking pass??????????? Running the license plate on the vehicle, linking that to the registered owner, linking the registered owner to the wildid number, and finally the wildid to the fishing/hunting license holder. Even when applying vigilance to be legal at all times, there seems to always be a crack to fall into or pile of stinky to step in. I will say the plastic used by the WDFW is tough stuff. But that is about all I have written in the pro's column of my list. A really big vent and FYI to all.

For the life of me, I can't understand why they don't just simplify things. When you buy your fishing license, you would be issued (2) static window decals that you would put on the inside of the windshield on the drivers side. If you own more than two vehicles, additional stickers would be available for an additional fee. The issuance of the decals would be based on the address on the license. If you and your wife have fishing licenses, then the computer would show that two stickers have already been issued to the first person at the same address, therefore no additional stickers would be issued.
Quad, the paper is suppose to be waterproof. Apparently the ink isn't.

Years ago they DID use window sticky things. I had to move it from one vehicle to the other. Then it would quit sticking. Then I had to use tape to hold it in place. So I'd just put it in a small plastic bag just big enough for the 'decal' and tape the bag to the window. Some sort of window cling plastic stuff.

Dog.......gone it. I can't speak to good intentions or not on your part. But honestly, your setting yourself up for a real pickle if wanting to catch a limit in that way, when it comes to the explanation to a WDFW officer. If you can't prove it, I wouldn't even place myself in that situation. Simply because the risk is not worth the penalty of the 5 trout. I understand entertaining the thought here on the forum and applaud that. On the other hand, if you had the fish in your truck and were not seen carrying them from the bank to your truck. Then an infraction does not seem credible unless you reached a limit on the body of water previously fished that day.. In the end, it is always about evidence and what can be proven.'OL GREY DOG wrote:ok.....so i catch 2 on the way out say....and then go hit Nahwatzel ??? 3 more to get to my 5 ???

I wasn't sure the threads in the forums were actually actively looked at and replied too!Gringo Pescador wrote:Ha! Yeah it is. That is one kick A$$ t-shirt. I had to zoom in or in other words make what was on my puter screen larger to read all the words. Then I was trying to figure out what the words were written on and it came to me that, that would make a damn fine t-shirt. Hope to see you in it, one day while fishing one of the local lakes. That is if I can figure out which WildId parking pass belongs in the proper vehicle being used on that particular outing. Oh, ya since I am now a registered owner on my wife's vehicle........problem should be solved.....or is it?
Ever feel like your guilty........by design?
Anyway, nice choice in t-shirts.

Stacie,
Sorry to change the topic to a new question. I just picked up a new truck, but do not have the permanent plates yet. Can I write the temp number on my parking pass and then cross it off and write in the actual license plate number when I receive it? The pass already has one license plate number for our other car on it. Thank you in advance for your reply.

Same thing as when you have to replace a plate on a vehicle in the middle of the year, as required to do every 7 years, the plates have to be replaced.Kevin K wrote:Stacie,

STACIE!
First of all, Thanks for the all the help you do on the site ! We all really appreciate it.
My question, I know its not in your region but do you know the plans for the Skokomish River, in Mason County?
I was reading the regs and it said t he river will be closed, but it is also to be determined.
Do you know what the plan or could you find out the plan for what the WDFW wants to do with the river?
Is it gonna be closed?
If it is, Im gonna start having withdrawls... :pale:

~Men and fish are alike. They both get into trouble when they open their mouths.

Is Salmon retention closed below the Bonneville Dam? I can't find anything that says otherwise..
