Westport fishing trip from the small jetty;
Got there Friday night around 10:00pm, slowly rigged up since I was going to be there for two nights. 1st 5 cast, landed 4 sea bass. One was 1.55 lb and other three were 1 lb. Next the wind picked up and it was DEAD. no fish to very little fish for next two days. The weather and wind was perfect the next evening and night and no fish. Friend caught a 7 inch greenling and used it as a bait for lingcod. after 5 mins the bobber went down, I pulled only after 1.5 seconds and came up empty. I should have let him taken it.... Great weather but poor fishing. Ended up with 7 sea bass and no ling
was here two weeks before and I caught 1 ling per day and 4-5 sea bass a day; was there for 2 days and 1 night

Why only the small jetty? I fish off the main jetty and limit out on rockfish every trip, almost makes it worth the gas money to get there from seattle. Also, it'd be good to post a report in the report section, so that it shows for posterity.

Went to westport two weeks before this trip and I caught two Lingcod from the small jetty for the first time. Friend wasn't catching anything so we ended up going to big jetty and I caught a small bass and he caught nothing. so on our next trip we decided not to waste our engery and take that long walk. I guess you are right, should have gone but was too tired from too much fishing and lack of sleep.
what report section are you talking about, I am new, just found this site out today.

Welcome to the website! Under reports, click "Submit reports" and then put what you posted in after filling out the forms and selecting your area. That's the neatest thing about this place, there are reports that can tell you historically which lake, river has historically held fish during what month and where. So that you'd know what bait has worked when and where you should go etc.
The trick to getting fish at the jetty is to use sand shrimp for bait. Live ones. We dig our own, and go through a lot more than 12 in a days worth of fishing, but we consistently catch way more fish than most everybody that's out there. Also when fishing from the jetty, you want to fish right next to the rocks. Pretty much straight in front of you. A lot of guys are pitching their bait out into the channel, and there's not much but sand out there. The rock fish suspend further out sometimes, but most of the fish are right at yer feet, not six feet out. Look for the spots with big depth changes, the fish hold up there in larger concentrations. I know a few spots that go from 5 to 30 feet real quick and always get nice fish from there, even on the worst fishing days. And when you're using live bait, let the ling take it for a while, especially if it's a greenling. They like to chew on it before they swallow it. We use big circle hooks, and just put tension on the line, and they hook them selves for the most part. But if you're a hook setter, use a big J hook and let 'em chew on it before you yank it to them. Steel leaders too. My aunt lives in westport and I grew up fishing during the summer, so I know how to put blood on the rocks I just wish I lived a wee bit closer.

When you say the small jetty is that the one closer to town? What are you using for gear and setup?
