Snohomish River Boat ramps, low tide, and fishing

OK, my son wants to go fishing Monday. I thought I would take him on the Snohomish river for pinks. I usually launch in the town of Snohomish and run over to the Thomas Eddy area. Here is my question:

Low tide on Monday is 11:30 am. I know the Snohomish launch is no good for retrieval at low tide. That's OK, we can come in at say 1-2pm, BUT -

It seems like I would want an incoming tide for best fishing, outgoing is going to see those fish sucking out rather than flooding in. Do you think fishing this area will be OK in a outgoing tide?

My other option is another day on the saltwater, which would be fine, except I was also wanting to show my son river fishing.

Well probably,but incoming tide is best but still give it a go, ive tried the snoho once along time ago back in 2009 best fishing times were the incoming tides.


Pink dick night spoons work well if your going on a boat or just the regulaer corky and yarn any color for pink always works lol. Good luck!

On an incoming tide pinks can make it as far as the head of tidewater. Those that come in a little later on the incoming can make the airplane hole. Snohomish is a "safe" launch from tweakers. Just above the mouth of the Pilchuck has been putting out a lot of pinks for my river fishing buds. The Rotary launch stinks at low tide and has had its tweaker issues. Plus the little dick there has been packed with people throwing Buzz Bombs or other gear with too much lead. Langus is a real good "safe" launch. Its a good long run if you want to fish upriver, but you can launch or retrieve at any tidal stage. I'd say go whack humpsters out in the hollow or westside Possession, but I'm a saltwater guy. Me, I'll be up on the island beach fishing, trying to find silvers in the midst of all the pinks.

It sound like your son wants to go fishing and you would like to get on the Snohomish. Why not wait on the river until tides are better suited for the locations you would like to fish and get out on the salt and let him have some fun?!

It also sounds like you want to get out in the morning. There is another big tide swing after that low tide that ought to bring in a lot of fish, as well, if you can fish in the afternoon into dinner time.

I have to agree with everything Wolverine had to say. I was out in the snoho yesterday and it has slowed considerably. I think they are stacked up out in the hallow waiting for some fresh rain or something. I usually launch at langus and run up. Yesterday fishing was best between highway 9 to above the pilchuck. When we get another good push they should be spread throughout the river again.

Low tide in Snohomish is about 45 min to an hour later then it is in Everett so it will be more like 12:15 that ramp sucks on minus tides. I have always found the fishing better on the incoming tide and try to launch about an hour after low tide and fish until slack tide. It is also really shallow between the train bridge and the mouth of the Pilchuck when the tide is all the way out.

Had a fine pink fest on Sunday. Plenty of water in the river I'd go high bridge and launch. Then go down as far as you dare. 522 is fine, we had our limit + C&R down a bit further.
