Out of control boat on the Kenai! Amazing vid!

Post by Matt » Fri Nov 04, 2011 6:03 am

Found this video on another forum, it is too incredible not to post. FOUL LANGUAGE WARNING: If you are offended by off color language please don't view this video.

Apparently the operator of the out of control sled was jettisoned from his vessel and rescued down stream. People had planned to let the boat run out of fuel, but that plan apparently changed and THIS is what happened. Truly amazing.

Wow bigger set than I have! I'd have watched till it blew or ran out of fuel. That's nuts! How about a vote for runnaway strap?

Looks like the rescuer also took a swim in the end. There's a lot to be said about a working kill switch...

Wow. That guy got mauled! Maybe boats should be like riding lawn mowers, once you get thrown off the blades shut off and the race is over.

Kahonee's?

I want to know the rest of the story. Like what happened to the driver? I was wondering, since the dude with the "bigger set" came from down stream. The same direction the driver of the empty boat would have been floating. If that person was picked up by "bigger set", who now has a bigger "bump on his melon" after less than intelligent heroics!

Your right! Looks like the kill switch worked on "bigger set's" boat and it stopped at rivers edge, along with the runaway boat.

It didn't look like the rescuer was sporting his PFD ether.

There are some achievements which are never done in the presence of those who hear of them. Catching salmon is one, and working all night is another.

I'm thinking it's good that it wasn't an engine with a prop.

Brave, now that is up for debate! Jumping into a super dangerous situation, and creating a life threatening opportunity, when no lives were in danger is silly at best. He got lucky and that is assuming no serious injury. He could have been bleeding, the video was taken at to far a distance to make out his injuries. I would imagine the bottom of a river boat is pretty rough from scraping rocks rubbing sand, and probably cut that guy. That is addition to the blow he took to the head or and face.
I mean, it is not likely this was some sort of contest, where if the run away boat is stopped, that determines the winner, and that is who get's to keep the boat!!

I hope that guy isn't a WA Lakes.com member. He is mui macho, eh? NOT! What a crock, so now there are jet sled wranglers out there. Sheesh. Shoot the motor and be done with it. Just kidding. I vote for the 30 gallon tank of gas to run out as long as no one gets in the way.

Except most of the boats on the Kenai run props. There's an HP resriction that forces anything over about 15' to run a prop, I think it's 40HP if I remember right, Yam makes a detuned 50 just for the Kenai. It's a deep river and not a lot of rocks. If that was a pump there would have been a big rooster tail. The guy is lucky he didn't get gored!

What I want to know is . Where are the original occupants of the boat? Did they drown or was it a stolen boat.? Anyone know. It might have even been a set-up for you tube. ????
