Casting rod salmon/steelhead

Yeah i used the guide select before i got my fetha styx. 9 6 medium light. I broke the tip section one day and walked into the store where i got it and the guy put a new top section on it, only cost me ten bucks. practically like getting a new rod.

i agree, get a jim mercer rod, absolutely do not buy a fetha styx rod, their blanks are chinese made and they have the balls to put an american flag on em, and then talk crap on jim mercer for using rainshadow blanks, fetha styx is cheap overpriced garbage

Get the 300.00 then go buy an Ugly Stick for 50.00 then take the 250.00 to the Casino and turn it in to a new boat with motor.Whatever happens you still have a new rod that is light and damn near impossible to break.

My sst tip was replaced under warrenty and the turn around was great. I think it might have been a total of 7-8 days from the day I sent the broken tip and that included weekend. I have a 9'6" sst and a 10'6" sst and would recommend them. I have not heard anyone talk bad about them and the price, warrenty, and quality are outstanding.

woah woah woah woah woah. not cool. haha. My fetha styx rod is sooooo unbelievably nice. they are light, sensitive, and strong. The sst's and guide select's are nice but for me no comparison. Not trying to start an argument obviously everybody is entitled to their opinion but I wouldn't call them garbage.

It's Jim Mercer's Rod Company. He started it after Fetha Styx. Just about the sweetest rods you'll ever set eyes on.

It's still steep for a rod. Thats 10 ssts and I've had my SSTS for 3 years... If you do the math thats 30 years worth of rods if you break one every 3 years. Plus they are durable rods, so if you get 5 years of use out of them thats 50years worth of rods for the price... Why can't made in America be cost effective???

So let me get this right........... Are you saying you wouldn't like an XRodz? Personally given the chance I'd take one over SST in a heart beat. If it's the price, you only live once and if fishing is your passion then $500 is nothing. As the rods I have go down, they will be replaced by Mr. Mercer. As you might surmise, none of the current stock is an SST....

There is no justifying an emotional purchase. It comes from desire and lust, boy is it a wonderful thing.

I have been fishing the entire NW & Canada for 30 years. Think it out you have so many options, Lamiglas, GLoomis, Shimano, Xrod, etc and so forth. Ya you can spend 500.00 on a new rod, but after 30 years of fishing I wouldn't. Before you go spend 500.00 on 1 rod. take a look a the New 2012 Shimano Claris rods price 129.99. You have a option to get a great rod which I've already tested for Shimano. If you were thinking of a casting rod how about 10' salmon & steelhead.

Well I guess it's time. You guys pick the rods you like and I'll pick the ones I like. I'm absolutely sure who's going to do the most enjoying........ it's in my nature.

All the justification going on for an item that ultimately gives us a lot of pleasure. Personally I'd rather not justify my pleasures, nor do I like to settle when it comes to them. I did a lot of settling in the earlier part of my life so my kids didn't have to. Now it's my turn.
