Hot Weather Salmon
Has anybody looked at the weather forecast lately? Well if you are like me and look it up every day then you would have noticed that this week will be HOT. And I don't mean that the bite is going to be hot I mean that I think anyone will be lucky to catch salmon this next week.
In the seattle area alone it will be easily in the 80's or low 70's and sunny. Now I am not complaining because It is great to see some nice weather here in the northwest; but lets be real here; rasie your hand if you are so assured of yourself that you think you could possibly catch multiple salmon in 80 degree weather. I thought not. If you do think you can, or you have a fun alternative this is the place to post it. Lets face it, until we get a splash of rain to waken up the riversystems we all know and love we are going to need something to do to.

Some people go to church or the temple or the mosque or where ever one practices religion and dream about being in their favorite fishing spot and others go fishing and see their god(s) reflected back at them in the amazing nature around them.
Re: Hot Weather Salmon
Oh, we;re catching them. We've been catching them for a bit. The sun just makes it a bit tough, but they're out there. Just have to know your water, and use what works and when. Just this week we've pulled kings from the Samish, Coho kings and steelhead from the Sky, steelhead in the Wallace, Silver in the Green and area 9, cutthroat kings coho and steelhead from the Cowlitz and cutts coho and steelhead from the Duwamish. Now don't get me wrong, I'd love me a good rain. It's going to make my job ten times easier, but I love me a good wet wade too. Enjoy the sun while it lasts, and if you're finding it tough on the river, get out and get yourself some bass for the fry pan.

Re: Hot Weather Salmon
yeah me and a buddy pulled 7 silvers from the quil saturday but there is apperently still a couple hundred laying below the linger longer bridge in quilcene waiting for rain so hopefully we get some withing the next couple weeks. I love fishing in the rain becuase it always seems like fishing is better when it is raining and that goes for every river I fish.
Re: Hot Weather Salmon
I need some lessons from you guys then, 'cause i cant catch a single one.

Fishing isn't a hobby, It isn't for fun. Fishing is life.
Re: Hot Weather Salmon
IDK, the silvers were biting good this morning on the Green-Duwamish, in spite of the sun.
Re: Hot Weather Salmon
i think its a matter of time spent and consistency and you will catch fish.. the weather makes it tougher sure, but if you go fish, eventually you will catch..
some people ask for reports, some people go make them..
fishing hasn't been lights out good for me, but then again I get like 1.5 days on average a week to fish. I have a few punched on the card.

Re: Hot Weather Salmon
I've been getting coho at 70-90 feet deep in the sound. thinking this lack of rain will hold them out in the salt longer for me to load up.

I get what you mean oneshot, obviously if you go fishing more you are bound to catch more fish. But since I am a sophmore in Highschool and live in the bellevue suburbs I have very little choices of when/where to go fishing. I have only been to the duwamish 3 times this season and only on sundays. And since I am so young I don't have enough money to get a boat, much less a truck to tow it with. Also last Time I was there a seal decided to run all the fun about an hour into my day. Real cute but I wish he wasn't there. I swear if the Department of fish and wildlife had tags for seals and sealions, you'd see alot more fisherman walking around with shotguns. I was thinking about taking some lessons from Nate Treat or going on a float with him and a buddy of mine; but again, very little money.

You do what you can when you can. Can't change the weather so why whine about it? Adapt and conquer. That is one of the great things about fishing, if it were like going to a U-fish pond every time you went out it would get boring quick. Fish when you can, if this year sucks you got pink fever to look forward to next year and I can guarantee the weather nor the seals will be a factor then..
I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant, and not nearly so much fun. ~ John Volker
Re: Hot Weather Salmon
I been catching fish Just about every time I been out this year... I spent a lot of time learning the waters I go to and adapting to the changes. But I really like the weather hot heck I am a desert rat. Anyway's 80 is still cold for me this time of the year. keep the rain the Puke is still getting fish in it without the rain. I am happy without it.. don't worry we will have 9 months straight of rain.

and....... your original post was about it being too hot to catch fish.. not about being in school, not having the $$ or time..
others chimed in saying they have caught fish as it has been nice weather for a while now..
now the topic is directed at no time, no cash..
you live closer than me and you're in school that gets out earlier than most of us too.. go after school, the evening bite can be good!
as more fish enter the river your Sundays will become more productive!

Re: Hot Weather Salmon
As Oneshot can attest, Seals really don't make much difference when catching fish. The last few I've got have been with in a 100' of a seal and Oneshot got a king within spitting distance of a seal. If you see a seal, it's probably because there are fish there.
