First time on the Puyallup

Post by Kaptain King » Fri Sep 21, 2012 1:29 pm

Hello everyone. I have never fished the Puyallup and just got a new pair of chest waders so I am looking to try it out soon. I have never "combat fished" before and want to try and avoid that if I can (probably have to go to another river for that though) but the river is super convenient for me. Does anyone have any tips on etiquette they could offer me? Also, I am taking some of my Blue Foxes, Dick Nites, Little Cleos, etc. down to the river...Any advice on lures on size or color? Do those sound like a good start?

Anyway, I am just looking to fish and not piss anyone off down there or look too stupid. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and tight lines!

corkys and yarn and lots of scent! the water is so muddy, don't waste your money on snagging lures up..
most people down there do well on corkies and yarn..
from what i read here only.. not from exp.. i rarely go south of seattle.. my skin breaks out in rashes and my hair starts to fall out..

Corky and yarn. Color doesn't matter.

Corkies and yarn for sure. Up river is your best bet now. Wait for the guy to your down stream side and cast up slightly. Feel the bottom bounce and set at anything that feels off and you'll be ok. I use orange with red yard and do well. Good luck!

9-10 ft. Longer is better. The fast the water the longer. Slow moving water I will shorten the leader.

Those using leaders that long are flossing 99% of the time. And if you`re not,the last time I checked the puke was muddy from all the glacial runoff,so a long leader wouldn`t make sense. That is, if you`re not flossing of course.

Thanks for all the tips. If I can get out of going to a stupid wedding in Ephrata this weekend, I will be down there this Saturday morning. But it's my wife's good friend so I have about as good a chance as a fart in a windstorm.

One more thing: What parking pass do you use down there? I have to assume you need something. Does the one you get with your license work or do I need to go get some other chicken *&%@ parking permit?

Thanks again guys. A corky and yarn it is!

No special parking pass needed. Just don't park where it say "no parking".
