I could deal with 6 when it is kicking out fish like yours and many others, when I was there saw one that had to be 14-16lb atleast the thing was huge in the hatchery. lots of 10s and 12s being caught too but then again only like 6 are being caught a day but come mid december it will be kicking out atleast a dozen or more a day, hopefully they don't come in all at once that was the nice thing about the low water last year, it spread the season out.
Hey metal I have heard good things about that combo too, i have atleast 20 made of those but hardly ever use them. Ever try the foam aeroflys? What happen to the fish, a disease or something? That is why rivers should keep surplus fish and release more smolts from their own fish seems logical instead of killing all returning fish and uing a different river stock.
Where do they get the brood stock fish then for the bogy?

I beileve there was an IHN outbreak on the quillayute system in 2010 that killed off all the bogachiel smolts. Also i've never heard of any broodstocked fish on the bogy bonker.

There is no broodstock program on the bogey. All chambers creek stock.

Along with everywhere else in the state. Said goodbye to broodstock after snyder creek terminated. Washington needs to take a hint from oregon or BC and get their s**t together

on the wdfw site it shows the bogy getting 100000 smolts of broodstock released in it last april also it shows the cascade getting some too. I could be wrong though about what it really means.

Amen to learning from our neighbors. Wa. state refuses to learn from them. The fishing in Canadien waters is far superior to our state. Same with Oregon. I fish the Umpquah river. Its worth buying a Oregon license.Especially for Springers.

While fishing today I was talking with Stan(guy who works/lives at hatchery)and one of the things I had talked to him about was if the smolt released here(cascade) are from the fish that return here? Answer is yes, the fish that are released are from the exact fish that come back to that hatchery. So that would mean the cascade does not use broodstock. If I understand it correctly.

nope, broodstock is where they take wild strains of steelhead and create hatchery fish from them. Broodstock rivers have big hatchery fish because they are of wild strain, which are always bigger. The reason i catch 18-20 lb hatchery steelhead in the vedder every year is because the hatchery fish i killed had 2 native parents, and they do not use hatch fish in the hatchery so the fish are always only one year removed from wild strain. Broodstocking = PIGZ

Took a repeat client out today, good to have ya out on the river again John! we hit some nice lookin fish, that one big steelhead was crazy trying to land him so close to all those trees and bushes, one wrong move and he coulda been gone, we got lucky! 10+ lb buck, little color but a hard fighting beauty! added a few nice wild B run brighter coho into the mix also for the last day salmon is open!

Good job landing those fish. I didn't see you guys lose any of the fish you hooked and that is a tough spot to land them. We landed zero today. Tim hooked one the same time you guys where fighting one, and he lost it.....He is starting to get discouraged as he has yet to land a steelhead. Maybe next week.

alright metal thanks, I thought they were raised at the bogy then released in the calawah annd bogy.
nice job FF, looks like that slot over there is still good huh, bonus coho looks pretty good too especially for the last day in the season for that river. Get em on eggs again or jigs? Are you still going to the coast tommorrow might see you out there.

Not enough pictures on this thread - so I will throw today's take in.. The bigger hen weighed out at 11lbs cleaned and gave me 1lb, 12oz of eggs.
