January South Sound fishing?
I am relatively new to the Olympia area and want to try to get out as much as possible in 2013.
What is open and available to fish in this area in Jan/Feb? I would prefer a body of water to get out in my kayak and get some exercise as well. Suggestions?

I have heard that American Lake has some trout in it to be caught.

Squid jigging at Steilacoom too! You can get pretty good jigs at the Outdoor Outfitters in Lacey-- you need a decent light too though. Crabbing is also opened in area 13 thru Monday. Dependent on your kayak you could drop a crab pot out of Boston Harbor for Red Rocks. The bay there is pretty full of them, and if the water is pleasent can be a great place to paddle around.
Also, please let me know if you got my reply PM OlySpec. It says it's in my outbox, and I am pretty computer illiterate, so I'm not sure if it actually got to you. If not I'll resend.

Thanks for all the input! I like options! Wish I remembered the late crab season, I have missed out and did not even think about Boston Harbor.
@ Fish-or-man - I got your PM and replied back. Have been interested in learning about the squidding in the area as they are too tasty and I have never caught them fresh.

Hey Olyspec ,if you fish and plan leaving your car or rig in the parking lot ,remember to have nothing visible of any value. Even with an alarm it does no good. I have nothing in my rig and dont lock the doors. Ifin you lock the doors there go your windows. Good Luck.

@ racfish - man, I am so sorry to hear about that. I have been lucky with where I park, but usually it is in a well used area. It would be great if there were a sticky topic on these boards for vandalism, break in's, etc..., so we know where best to be at full guard.

Catch and release sea run cuthroat and the younge resident silver action can be pretty hot down in your area.
