There are some achievements which are never done in the presence of those who hear of them. Catching salmon is one, and working all night is another.

no other steel seen by anyone i talked to today other than ours, one guy up by the dam said he hooked into one for a few seconds. And still lots and lots of coho. Quite a big group of people down there today, everyone seems to be getting excited for the steelhead season.

Finally had a chance to try out the new 9'6" DXS and Lexa 2500 reel I picked up from Sportco's sale earlier this month. Great combo, nice smooth reel and the drag is rather smooth too.

Glad I got out today, I caught my first steelhead ever. It aint pretty, but I'm not complaining. :-" 14lb Cowlitz summer buck. Thought they would be done with all the chrome I was seeing today, but Murphy's Law strikes again. Really need to look into changing my last name... #-o

He had 2 other hooks in his mouth, guess he was going for a record or something.

Doesn't look that bad, just a lot of sand stuck to it. Wash him off and I'd be he looks pretty good.

Going to forks saturday in the drifter on the bogy with my dad and a friend.
Got an 11lb steely from the cow 2 days ago glow balling style, went to the skookumchuck and there are some nice fish in there but most of the coho are boots, maybe 1 out of 15 are decent. Nice steelies guys. Unfortunately I did not get anything during the day time at the cow, but I saw a couple dozen split between bank and boats.

I realize its his first Steelhead but thats what in river terms is a BOOT. Nice big fish but probably not a huge fight. I cant wait till you hook into a silver dollar bright steelie. youre in for the ride of your life. That dorsal is messed up . LOL.. Its a hatchery fish anyways. They do no good in the wild. Better you kept him. Freeze it before you cut it up for the smoker. It'll help the meat.

Nice first steel, now you got the bug for sure. Too funny about the other two hooks in his mouth.

I don't think it's a boot at all, it has a little blush on the side stripe but it certaily hasn't turned green, it's still chrome. What's making it look dark is the sand all over it. Just look past the sand to the real color.

So, you're saying.....don't judge a boot by it's cover? [laugh] [flapper]

Boot or not, it's better than what I've brought to the bank this season.....nothing. Good job nailing the fish.
