i spent a lot on mine but its nice and i got a good job soooo u no but anyway its frenwick eagle gt 7ft med action 60 bucks and fluger president spinning reel 65 bucks they both have worked really good so far

I have a 6740 Pflueger President and I just got a Berkley Buzz Ramsey med. action rod. These are both new in the last month. I have an old Wright and McGill pole that I have been using and catching fish with. I have also caught a lot of the Samon on a Diawa 6'6" med action. The largest this year and my all time largest a 19.5 lb King at the Les Davis Fishing Pier off Ruston way. It has been a good pole. Some of the thread is coming off at the part where it comes apart.
The first fish I caught on the new Pflueger was my first Steelhead.
Spent $60.00 on the new pole and $54.00 on the reel. New pole hasn't had a fish on yet.

yea i could have easily dropped 125$ on a nice quantum reel that came with a nice sturdy rod bt i cant remeber the brand. but joes had it as a "paired for proformance" package specifically for salmon and steelhead. the only problem was i did not have 125 bucks to spend....i want that combo!!!!

fyi combo's are usually not all that nice of a setup sometimes. The standard trout spinning reel and 6' trout rod setups are a great deal and can be of good quality, but the salmon rods combo's, especially those that are $125, is nothing special. I know exactly what reel/rod combo your talking about and that rod is pretty cheap and that reel feels even cheaper...I wouldn't spend $125 on it...

If I where you i would buy a cheap ambasadeur and a cheap 8'6" levle wind rod, when you bank fish rivers there are alot f chances to get your rod broken.

I have gone as light as possible all season. Right now I am using a 6' 6" med. action rod and and a pflueger echelon with 12lb test and it held up just fine when I was chum fishing last weekend. I used a lot smaller for the pinks same pole but a reel spooled with 6lb test. But I always bring my big salmon pole while river fishing just in case, spooled with 15lb test but hate using a set up that big. But for every species of fish I target I go as light as possible. It does piss a lot of off while combat fishing because you have to go with a really light drag setting so not to get your line snapped. But the fight is something else. Steelhead I cant speak for, but I dont plan on changing too much

i just need a affordable good quality heavyer steelhead/salmon rod. i dont really care about brands. i also need a cheeper reel, prefurable spinning but casting is fine to. any suggestions?

What is your price range? Joe's in my area has Berkly's on sale for $59.99 reg priced $74.99. The reel I bought off ebay for about $10.00 cheaper than stores had it for sale.

Can't ever go wrong with Shimano reels. They got all sorts of models from $39.99 and they go up from there...They got some middle of the line ones for 39, 49, 59,69, etc and all the way up to expensive reels that you dream about.... Rods: Shimano makes a great rod too and you can find a good deal on those. Don't go with an Okuma rod, they break about as easy as a toothpick....

a gatorback pole is cheap and works good as far as i know i used 1 for like 3 or 4 years caught 6 lb bass 10 15 lb catfish big trout and whatever i tried for and it was med action still have it to never broke, bent it end to end also with some fish

Mike will probably be posting an article about salt water fishing for steelhead at Fort Casey State Park soon in "Tackle Box Tales." It is a nice place to camp for a couple days and fish for salt water steel. The best fishing will be starting soon. BT

i was fishing yesterday with blue fox's and also i tried a pink steelhead jig under a slip bobber. first i tried the bluefox and caught nothing but some leafs that were drifting down the river and messing up my fishing. once i tied on my jig/ bobber set-up on my third "drift" i hooked into a steely but he/she immidatly dove down and took advantage of a fray in my line or somthing and broke me off. my buddy's caught a couple of old red silvers, fihsing for steely's in my region is gunna be slow until the new winter runners come in.

Me and my buddy caught a couple of tiny steelhead today in the green. He also had a decent sized all silver fish on right up to the bank, but he didnt know what it was, I think it was a steely though.

Derrick, No not Spokane street we were right around the 405 bridge. There was a lot of little fish jumping everywhere


Sam, no I dont think they were cutts. They looked just like rainbows but were skinny and had a huge mouth, and no red under their throats.

Some sea runs have very faint if any red markings under their throats...
