Playing around with sons new Gopro mount
Re: Playing around with sons new Gopro mount
That's one serious pole with many, many extensions. Or, a freekin helicopter mount. How high does she fly?
Also, do the gro pro's have a zoom feature?

Re: Playing around with sons new Gopro mount
The system is line of sight so ranges around 1500-2000 feet are fairly safe and it can be pushed past those distances thanks to a Return to Home feature of the GPS flight controller. The problem you run into is that seeing something 22"Wx15"H becomes more difficult with increased distance, also wind currents push you around and thermals make it seem like the heli never wants to come down from altitude. The gopros do not offer a zoom feature, but with a larger heli the load capacity increases and DSLR and smallish HD video cameras are well within that range offering greater flexibility and capability. Here is what my current set up looks like .

Hello big brother
That is cool! Now figure out a live link to a screen on shore, throw a polorized lense on it and you will know where the fish are in no time!

I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant, and not nearly so much fun. ~ John Volker

I was thinking of more follow the runs of salmon using the camera. But your idea is also good. Drop my dodger and bare hook over the shore of Mercer Island then reel back for sockeye. How much can it support for a drop?
Re: Playing around with sons new Gopro mount
Get a bigger chopper and just lift the fish over to shore and drop it at your side.

Super rad! That's something I want in the future for snow sports..
Re: Playing around with sons new Gopro mount
Just make sure it has a LONG whip ant. so you can find it when it crashes into the snow and sinks. Oh ya, that's water it sinks in.

You can buy all that stuff off the shelf. Pretty common these days. Check out Hobby King, they have all the first person piloting gear, the quad+ copter stuff and all the video links. Pretty cool onboard computers, too, all you need to is work on the programming and you got yourself an autonomous rig...... If you really want to go Big Brother. I'm so glad the Seattle cops got shut down on their use of drones. I'm sure it's going to be an eventuality but I for one would like to se it push out another 30 years or so.Gringo Pescador wrote:Hello big brother

As a side note my brother designed an autonomous train system with cams and .....(well you know) that could recognize people and link to a base station when they "felt threatened" for human interaction and trigger. They were designed at the request of the Fed Prison System. In the end the plan got nixed by unions and the aclu but there was a working model for proof of concept.
