That's what I expected happened. There is going to be a fishery, it's just going to be another year where tribe waits until the last minute to agree to something.

Yep. Usually how it goes!
He said that the tribe is trying to take over both sides of the river and everything in between and the states not going to let that happen.

It doesn't surprise me. Give the tribe an inch and they'll take a mile. They're entitled to everything, and don't give anything back. Sometimes it makes me ashamed to be native.

I wouldn't be opposed to it if the tribes actually used the fish and took only what they needed, but they just rape the rivers and sell it off.

Exactly. Not sure about the skok hatchery system but if the tribe isn't funding it then I'm not sure why they get any of those fish. If they are funding it, then I have no beef.

They have a tribal hatchery on the skok as well as a state run. Regardless of who runs the hatcheries the boldt decision only allows them up to 50% of harvestable fish on a run so sportfishers & non tribal commercials still have rights to half the returning fish to a tribal hatchery. They get around that by either not clipping all or part of the reared fish. That's not even getting into the part that most tribal hatcheries are federally subsidised either completely or everything short of labor costs. One way or another we pay for the fish in the rivers. And if the tribe does manage to get a permit system going on the skok it'll only be a matter of time before the rest of the "tribally" run rivers go the same way.

LOL. You think thats correct? What about Tribal ceremonial netting that dosen't count as part of their quota.We get no Lk Wa Sockeye while the Muckleshoots get their share. If thats a 50 % split explain it to me please.Back in the late 60's and 70's Boldt was a well taken care of friend named Satiacum. He just happened to be the head of the Puyallup nation.

Rac i'm not saying it's enforced like that (lord knows they found all kinds of ways around the split) but that's how it's supposed to work out. It's kind of hard to get effective dialogue going with some (not all tribes are abusive or greedy about the resources) of the more abusive tribes because of the people we put in office, who then appoint wdfw honchos. Also not many individuals or politicians are willing to hold the hard line against the tribes because of accusations of being a racist or non-sympathetic to the "hardships" the indians faced in the past. Most of the public see the tribes as victims and care more about the enviroment then a U.S. citizen would. So until that "People of the land" p.r. crap is dispelled on a major scale, then we sportsmen will always be in a bad position to bargain. Personally i believe because of the snyder act that the treaties are unconstitutional‎ being that it grants unassailable rights to citizens that are not universally available to all.

It's suppossed to be 50/50, with the trices getting 50, sporties getting 25, and commercials getting 25. What I really want to see is the tribal numbers kept track of. We have to punch our fish, commercials are under super strict watch, but where are the numbers posted for the tribes? All the other numbers are readily available online. We just have to trust under the honor system that the tribal nets come out when they've reached their "50%".

And it's not like there isn't precedent for regarding the tribes as untrustworthy -

http://seattletimes.com/news/local/tribalhousing/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The Seattle Times won a Pulitzer for that one.

http://seattletimes.com/html/localnews/ ... ab22m.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Th HEAD of the Puyallup Tribe's shellfish program poached and sold thousands of crab to commercial buyers without reporting them against the tribe's quota.

They don't or can't really do much about crime, even country wide it's a problem -

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/21/us/on ... d=all&_r=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And when we do try to take legal action against them, like when the Hoh was getting netted at 100% what they should have been getting and the tribe completely disregarded negotiated seasons and numbers, the state chickens out and caves to tribal pressure. What I would like to see is the money from the fish and casinos going to buy these folks housekeepers and stick built houses, education and drug and alcohol treatment. Where does it all go? They're not eating 50% of the fish themselves.

This Skok fishery is just a more public version of what goes on in the more distant fisheries. Here we have a state agency, strapped for cash, getting pressured by the feds to resurrect dying salmon runs, blowing up dams, bending over backwards to do anything that can help (to the best of their abilities while they tie both hands behind their back blindfold themselves and try to pin the tail on the sockeye), and then we have this whole other group of folks that simply ignore it, and complain while they run gill nets through the river.

I know that there are well meaning folks that work with the tribe, they have biologists, policemen and politicians, but the tribes people just don't care. And no one enforces it.

Sorry about the rant. I just feel ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

unfortunately it starts on the 3rd and the upper portion is getting screwed with only 11 days of fishing but basically the same, oh and the king fishing ends on the 25th other than sept 5th but it does begin 7 days earlier so its all good at least we have a season, well see everyone at 4am sharp on the 3rd!

Would the pink run take some pressure off the skok?

I wonder how slammed the lower skok is going to be Mon-Thurs when above 106 is closed. Thoughts?

it will be the same as last year as far as crowds. kings are far more important than pinks for most people, more and better meat even with the 2 fish limit. below 106, same as last year if not a little less since it is a pink year.

Nope, the crowds will be the same. Welcome to the Skok! I'll be down there every chance I get, I love it! I have no problem fishing around other guys, doesn't bother me one bit. That's what fall kings are about. I wish we had more of a season though. Just give the tribe the upper river completely, keep it open from august first down below. We don't need those dark fish!

I use a low-profile revo baitcaster and I was thinking about using braid as I don't have much experience landing big kings at the skok and would like the support. Would that get a gun pulled on me in the combat holes?

If not, can anyone recommend braided line I can get at fisher's emporium?

I asked for august 9-12 off. I'll be there every day if I can.

upper river doesn't have dark fish and if they are the still have bright orange meat plus some of the best holes including mine are off Purdy cut off, yeah they can from Purdy ck up though.
braid will be fine just know the casting order so you don't cut someones line. I use 20-25lb main

That's a no on the braid. You don't need more than 15-17 lbs main, 12-15 leader. Please leave the braid at home.
