Since I most often troll for trout on the lakes I prefer:
trout-patterned floating Rapalas (jointed seems to work the best),
flatfish
small spoons (DN, needlefish, etc.)

I like flatfish, roostertails, Kastmasters, and wedding rings. I use the flatfish and wedding rings from my boat, and mostly use the roosertails and Kastmasters from the shore. A sometimes cast a large Needlefish from shore.

Re: Your Top 3 Lures for Trout (lakes)
unweighted. best trolled. Don't buy 'em from the Canadian makers - waaaayyyy overpriced. I bought mine awhile ago @ Ross Lake and from the guy who originally made them. Last I heard, he was selling 'em out of a Camper near Lake Wallowa.
Re: Your Top 3 Lures for Trout (lakes)
I see, makes sense. I've heard they work great. The website said they could be used as a lure, so wasn't sure if they carried any weight to them to be able to cast.

Re: Your Top 3 Lures for Trout (lakes)
Bingo bugs pretty cool. Oh yeah, keep 'em cool or you'll be sorry, they will melt on a sunny day. Originally made by a family up in BC, as the patriarch got older and tried to hand the biz down, the kids wanted nothing to do with retail sales and he couldn't keep up the demand for wholesale so he sold the molds and name to a guy in OR. Pretty easy to buy now for quite a while it was a trip to BC and checking little bait and tackle shops that could get them. Can't say I made any trips just for the bingos but I always looked when up there for anything else.
I've used them tolling and on the end of a tippet and leader. Very light for gear.
