Re: tokul creek
I've never been to tokul. Does the water run clear or dirty most of the time?

Clear most of the time.skagit510 wrote:I've never been to tokul. Does the water run clear or dirty most of the time?
Re: tokul creek
If folks were interested we could do a tokul creek clinic. I would go just to drink nog and eat left overs since I'm just down the road.

Use a gibbs stick float, or a sliding float with stops on both sides of it so as to fix it. Run it a bit bigger so you can put a heavy piece of stick lead on it to get it down quick. Usually about 1.5 to 2 feet between your lead and bait, and probably no more than 3 to your float. It's a fast crick, so you want to get down quick. Let it boil and roll in the pockets, and drift it through, you get longer drifts then the guys flipping yarn flies. It's best to use a bait caster, for the simple reason that you can control the speed you let the line out with your thumb, and when it goes down, you just plant your thumb and rip, rather than fumble around with an open bail. I don't go lighter than 15 lbs. test, the water is super fast and loaded with snags, if you can't control your fish you're going to lose it, or have to follow it down stream. Folowing fish downstream can get pretty dangerous on Tokul, you don't really want to be wading in that fast water. It may not be deep, but I don't want to think about what could happen if you got pinned on a strainer with waders full of water.denhambruce wrote:How long of a leader do you bobber dog with there?natetreat wrote:Don't listen to anyone telling you to drift fish there. Bobber dog some eggs and you'll be catch twice as many fish. For some reason people are under the impression that you have to snag or floss these fish, when that couldn't be further from the truth. I love to fish that river, and I see it all the time. They hold behind the boulders, in the pockets, and they move around quite a bi, especially when there are a ton of guys stomping around. But seriously, someone needs to end the stupid 12 inch leader nonesense out there. But in the meantime, those of us that fish roe will out fish ya'll 3 to 1 so do what you want.

Thanks Nate, I'll be giving that a shot tomorrow!
Re: tokul creek
fished Tokul today. Thanks to the guys that imparted some intel. Hooked into a nice fish but it came unbuttoned at the edge. Slow fishing today according to the locals.
Forgiveness is between them and God. My job is to arrange the meeting!

Re: tokul creek
Tokul is the only place i have ever lassoed a fish. LOL Fishing a corky and yarn some 35 years ago in a boil the hook made a complete circle around the fish and hooked the line. I had it lassoed around it's belly, But I landed that fish!!!!!!!!
It was a zoo back then and I'm sure it still is. Not like any other Steely water that I have ever fished, I like the raging river better near there. I have gotten some nice fish there. Mostly within a 1/2 mile of the outlet into the Sno. River

thanks for the intel; i google searched but just got releases from years past.4n6fisher wrote:They opened it early as the hatchery had the brood stock they needed. There was an article on the Times, and an update on the rules update page on WDFW. They also upped the limit to 3 steelhead for Cascade river since they are not collecting eggs there.seattlesteban wrote:tokul creek isnt open till jan 15 2015? Nate - thanks for the info on the float setup!
Re: tokul creek
work the banks and move around often. I'm finding a new spot all the time. I hate standing in on place too long and like to venture around.
